Ok I am under the belief that DRM playback is not possible currently with HDHomeRun hardware.
But I also was told by Google's gemini this.

It is confusing two completely different and incompatible DRM schemes.

The DRM required by CableCARD is supported by the HDHomeRun app for iPhone/iPad.
The DRM controlled by A3SA being used on ATSC 3.0 is incompatible with iPhone and iPad (nothing to do with our app).

Thank you! I understand now. I forgot there is more than one DRM product. I use to use the Prime myself.
But comcast never used DRM in my area so I had access to everything.

Yes this comes at a high cost and the need for multiple boxes for each tv. A gateway tuner only needs play through an app supported by Google TV, Apple, Roku, Samsung and LG. Removing DRM on the main channel solves the problem and keeps the costs in line. Restrictions for encryption decoding by only Widevine L1 seems to be too restrictive and also requires an internet connection. Why should you require Internet to watch OTA TV?
The annual subscription and equipment costs you mentioned limits who will buy and who has the technology knowledge to set it up. I myself would be upset on the constant FW and SW updates you need to go through just to watch/record tv.

The Flex 4K for 4 tuners at $200 is $50 per tuner and open source software to DVR is free for everyone as well as the HDHOMERUN player is free with a 2 day EPG. Yes to get the EPG you need internet, but I would bet the software adjustment for SiliconDust to use a free OTA EPG option can be baked into the HDHOMERUN player app.

One issue with the other equipment is it is only running Android 11 without additional apps and the security update is way behind since Android 11 is no longer supported.
