Native HDHomeRun App DRM playback.

Post by klwillis »

Ok I am under the belief that DRM playback is not possible currently with HDHomeRun hardware.
But I also was told by Google's gemini this.

📱 Apple iPhone & iPad — DRM Workaround Available
Your iOS and iPadOS devices can successfully decode and play your locked-out ATSC 3.0 channels.

You must download and use the official HDHomeRun app from the App Store.

How it works: SiliconDust successfully updated their official app to utilize Apple's native, secure cryptographic media pipeline to handle the A3SA DRM keys.

Performance: Because modern iPad and iPhone chips have powerful hardware decoding, playback of the HEVC video and AC-4 audio tracks is smooth.

Is this True?

No, AI is wrong again. It has no logic to it and just finds patterns of words/language that has a statistical relationship to other patterns.

It is confusing two completely different and incompatible DRM schemes.

The DRM required by CableCARD is supported by the HDHomeRun app for iPhone/iPad.
The DRM controlled by A3SA being used on ATSC 3.0 is incompatible with iPhone and iPad (nothing to do with our app).

Thank you! I understand now. I forgot there is more than one DRM product. I use to use the Prime myself.
But comcast never used DRM in my area so I had access to everything.
