AC-4 decoding type indication?

Post by cncb »

How can we tell if your online decoding is being used vs on-device decoding. I know my FireCube device does it on-device because you told me so but is there any indication in the UI? I have a RockTek G2 certified Android TV box which I believe has the same chipset as the FireCube, but I cannot tell what kind of decoding is used.

The best indication I've found of transcoding is 2-channel output on a 5.1 source. If your receiver shows E-AC-3 (DD+) 5.1 from an ATSC 3.0 channel, it definitely didn't come from cloud transcoding.

I don't believe there is an indicator in the UI. We can access additional debug data if the user enables "send diagnostic information" and can look that up for you. There have been ideas about implementing a sort of diagnostic/antenna-alignment screen to the app, and this could be data that we show on that same screen.
