What does this email from Verizon mean? No more cable card support?

Post by Bibbit »

I got the following email from Verizon today. Does anybody know what this email means?
Hi,

Recent technology advancements now allow us to deliver your Fios TV service using Internet Protocol (IP) delivery. This is exciting as it allows for a more improved viewing experience and increased flexibility.

What does this mean for you?
Your Fios TV Digital Adapter(s) and/or CableCARD(s) will no longer work and require an immediate upgrade to avoid a service interruption.

Action needed:
Please call us today at 1-800-Verizon (1-800-837-4966) to schedule your equipment upgrade at no additional cost to you. This upgrade is essential for you to continue enjoying all your favorite content with Fios TV.

We look forward to hearing from you.

If you no longer use this equipment or have already upgraded, please disregard this message. No further action is required.

Verizon is going region by region and ending linear cable channels, which ends support for CableCARD and their little SD tuner boxes. Anecdotally, it seems like the end of Fios TV for most people who were still hanging on, as broadcast TV and other streaming options seem to be a lot more popular.
