Flex 4K duplicate recordings

Post by lenlab »

I record David Muir World News Tonight at 6:30 PM. Thats what I set up. How ever since it also comes on (Repeats) after midnight it gets recorded twice every day.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening either with the current software or with a HD Home software fix/option?

It looks like you're recording it, watching it in between the original broadcast and the rerun, and deleting it. Are you choosing the Delete and don't re-record option when you delete it? The guide data looks like it has the 2:36am version correctly marked as a repeat.

Thanks for the quick response.

So after I watch it and delete it I need to use the don't rerecord option in the delete box? Okay I will try that tonight.

That would work in this case but what about other shows that I record and are a series of 6 or 8 episodes that are shown in prime time and then another day in the AM. PBS typically does this with their shows repeating them on another day and time. I typically store these and watch at a later date. I guess having duplicates is not something that can be stopped in the process of setting up a recording?

2 other DVR brands that shall go unnamed (that I have and use) control this by calling the first showing as "New" in the guide (or if not in the guide they know it is new) and the second is not "New" and not recorded since you indicate you only want to record "New" of that particular show when setting up the recording options.

You would need to give exact examples (show, times and stations). PBS often has things marked as "new" when they previously aired (particularly between the different pbs stations but can also be a different sub channel of same station). When marked as "new" all logic to prevent recording a duplicate stops since you can't possibly have it yet as it is "new"... this actually works better than most systems if for some reason there was a scheduling change that may have delayed an episode, safer to record than not and miss a recording. Occasionally specifying a particular channel for the rule can help.

What I would first check is the recording metadata... get the recorded_files.json from the engine, then get the episodes for that show and check what is different between duplicates or if marked as a FirstAiring.
