The 1070 should be fine for cable. You just wouldn't want to buy a new one since it might outlast your ability to use a CableCARD and might have problems if you switch to OTA.

You can use an @reboot entry in the crontab as a basic way of doing it, but using the DEB file sets it up as a systemd service, which is the official way to do it on Debian. It does nice things like waiting for the network to be up before starting things that require network access.

The DEB package available at viewtopic.php?t=65560 is the easiest option as it includes all the scripts.
