HDhomerun Prime minus cablecard connected to OTA

Post by noberholtz »

I have a HDhomerun Prime connected with a Fios cablecard and watch through Plex Live TV. Fios announced they are discontinuing cablecards support in 2026. I have removed the cablecard to return to Verizon and connected to an antenna for receiving local channels. However, when I scan the HDHR to detect channels, no channels are detected. Am I missing some steps in the procedure to connect to an antenna or am I dead in the water without a cablecard for this HDHR? (I know the antenna connection is solid because I also use TiVo's and have successfully connected and receive local channels through their antenna port).

The tuners in HDHomeRun PRIME are only able to receive digital cable signals, not broadcast. You would need an OTA device, such as one of the current FLEX models, to receive broadcast TV.

Thank you for the quick response. I was afraid that would be the answer.

I got rid of my cable cards over a year ago and Verizon is still providing local channels. I had tried to sign up for just locals with internet but they wanted like $50 just for locals and i said no. So now i just have Gig Internet and free local channels. I just use the primes to tune and dvr local stuff.
