Error discovering on undefined:

Post by Geewiz »

My HDHomeRun FLEX 4k has been operating flawlessly for nearly 2 years. Recently have a relative staying with us and he tried to stream to my LG tv from his Macbook Pro laptop.

Since then HDHomerun app will not load and responds with the following...

"Error discovering on undefined: request timed out at
http://100.115.92.2:53123/discover.json"

It sits there for 10 seconds then goes blank.

I'm using the app on a Fire stick (two of them), my phone, my chromebook...all worked great until now.

I hope someone has an idea that will help!

How do you have your LAN numbered? That IP address, 100.115.92.2, is in the RFC-6598 address space, which is designated for CG-NAT. Though, some overlay networks (mesh VPNs) such as Tailscale use the address space as well.

This could cause some detection issues. Local area networks should use the RFC-1918 address space (192.168.0.0/16, 172.16.0.0/12, or 10.0.0.0/8).

In short, the fact that the HDHomeRun app is seeing something on 100.64.0.0/10 is concerning and potentially problematic.

My network is/has always, been on a standard 192.168.0.1/24 range. I have no idea where the 100.115.92.2 came from, though I suspect it has something to do with the attempt of a local user to cast from their Macbook pro laptop to the TV. I don't have enough networking knowledge to understand where that bandit IP address originated.

So you only have a single HDHomeRun tuner on your network? If so, that makes it interesting that the HDHomeRun app sees two.

Could you ask your local user if they run a pseudo-tuner app on their laptop (xTeVe, Threadfin, Dispatcharr, or similar) on their laptop? And if they perhaps use Tailscale? Or do you use Tailscale?

The fact that a tuner is being seen in that range is interesting.

2 devices because DVR storage is seen as a different "device", even if it is a USB hard drive on a FLEX or is a SCRIBE (internal hard drive).

The weird IP address is a Chomebook thing when you use an Android app in Chome OS. I'm not sure if we ever got the HDHomeRun android app to work reliably on Chome OS devices due to the weird way Google handles their network connection. Are you sure this was AirPlay and not a Chromecast from the Chromebook?
