Show ATSC 3.0 broadcasts?
Show ATSC 3.0 broadcasts?
Only been using HDHomeRun/Channels DVR Server for two days and it’s working very well. As little as I have been able to find out, most commercial stations in Seattle area are broadcasting encrypted ATSC 3.0. Is there a way to just see if anything is being received, even if it can’t be played? Signal GH doesn’t seem to do it either.
Re: Show ATSC 3.0 broadcasts?
Open the IP address of the tuner device in a web browser, then click "channel lineup", scroll to the bottom of the list to see your ATSC 3.0 stations.
Or get the Windows HDHR APP from the "MS Store".

So if I don’t see any listed in the Channel Lineup does that mean there aren’t any? Or just there aren’t any that are not encrypted? I don’t see any.

Re: Show ATSC 3.0 broadcasts?
The channel lineup shows all channels it detected from the scan... the ATSC 3.0 channels will start at/above 100 as the HDHR 4K devices add 100 to the virtual channel number when ATSC 3.0 as that was the method they chose to get both channels in the lineup. You would need an ATSC 3.0 capable tuner to detect and see ATSC 3.0 channels.
In Seattle I believe the 2 physical channels you need to be looking at are 24 and 31 (You may wish to do that with config_gui if you have a windows machine).

I have the Flex 4K so I have two ATSC 3.0 tuners. I don’t see any channels listed at 100 or above.

Re: Show ATSC 3.0 broadcasts?
If the channel isn't listed, the scan didn't pick it up. You will need to check your signal levels of the physical channels of the ATSC 3 broadcasts in your area. (I believe for you that would be 24 and 31). I would suggest hdhomerun_config_gui on a windows machine to check such out. Linux might also be able to run such though last I checked was a bit lacking for ATSC3... Trip's "tui" may be a bit better on linux to get the ATSC 3 information though it is text based (I believe you can make the file to run a mac as well but I haven't tried such yet). Since I don't have an iPhone, I can't say how or what SignalGH woud do for ATSC 3 channels (I would think it would show at least strength and quality though).
Re: Show ATSC 3.0 broadcasts?
Thanks for the response. You may be right, I have some weak signals here 40 miles from the towers. I have an antenna and preamp upgrade coming up that may help. But good to know they should show up whether encrypted (playable) or not.
Re: Show ATSC 3.0 broadcasts?
It is a reception issue, which I don’t quite understand as I get other stations in the same tower location. However, I discovered this tool in hdhomerun that shows signal strength and quality:
Check a strong ATSC 1.0 channel:
hdhomerun@channelsvr:~$ hdhomerun_config 192.168.0.107 set /tuner0/channel auto:36
hdhomerun@channelsvr:~$ hdhomerun_config 192.168.0.107 get /tuner0/status
ch=auto:36 lock=8vsb ss=72 snq=72 seq=100 bps=19251200 pps=0
And a weak ATSC 3.0 stations:
hdhomerun@channelsvr:~$ hdhomerun_config 192.168.0.107 set /tuner0/channel auto:31
hdhomerun@channelsvr:~$ hdhomerun_config 192.168.0.107 get /tuner0/status
ch=auto:31 lock=atsc3 ss=45 snq=5 seq=0 bps=0 pps=0
I’m in the midst of an antenna upgrade so I will report back when that is complete.

The ATSC 3.0 broadcast on 31 (KONG) is on Queen Anne Hill, while KZJO on 36 is on Capitol Hill. KIRO on 23 and KING on 25 are on Queen Anne Hill and would be better comparisons.
