Hard drive spins down, Flex 4K stops

Post by nwwoods »

Unit: Flex 4K
Device ID: 10A2ED19
External hard drive in a USB 3.0 SATA enclosure
Send Diagnostic Info is turned on

When the hard drive isn't active for some time, the enclosure spins it down. At some point following, I believe when the Flex 4K wants to start a recording, something goes wrong, the drive doesn't spin up and the Flex 4K goes into some mode where it's not reachable via the network. The app states there are no tuners available, and browsing to http://hdhomerun.local fails.

If I power cycle the hard drive, causing it to spin up, the Flex 4K comes back and all is well. Until the next time it happens.

Most SATA enclosures have this spin-down feature and most have no way to disable it. The documentation for the enclosures say it spins up as soon as the host accesses it, but that doesn't seem to be happening. What do I do?
