Roku player error: malformed data

Post by nwwoods »

I see the error "Roku player error: malformed data" when playing back certain recordings.

The recording is (obviously) included in the listing of recordings, and it will start playing for 10-15 seconds, but then playback freezes and this error is shown for a few seconds.

There might not be much you can do for those specific recordings. The Roku video player will freak out at minor data errors, even if the video itself is entirely playable and said errors don't affect the visible data. What can often be done is improving reception with the antenna to help minimize those errors.

We would like to get some diagnostic data:
  1. Please go to http://hdhomerun.local
  2. If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
  3. Click System Status
  4. Check the Send diagnostic information box
  5. Go back one page
  6. Click Channel Lineup
  7. Click on Detect Channels

Reply back to this post and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.
