So when I set up Jellyfin to record using the HDHomeRun server it records the incoming as a .ts file. When I record with the HDHomeRun media server on an attached drive and then download the file using the local_url/recorded_files.html it downloads as a file with the .mpg file designation. So if I download the .mpg and then copy to Jellyfin and then look at the media info link Jellyfin tells me the .mpg file is in a TS container.
But if I take a .ts file and run a conversion to .mpg and copy it to jellyfin and read the media info it says the container is MPEG.
Anyone have an opinion about what this means? Is the HomeRun server just applying the .mpg designation to a file that is actually a .ts file.
Any opinions welcome..
Thanks
media file type .ts or .mpg?
Re: media file type .ts or .mpg?
The file format is MPEG Transport Steam (TS).
The file extension is ".mpg"
The file extension is ".mpg"
Re: media file type .ts or .mpg?
I am using my HDHR Flex 4k turner the same way you are, but I just use JellyFin as my main DVR to save both the ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 as a .TS file. The .ts it is easier to work with. You can also use your JellyFin to open and play the recorded files located in the HDHRDVR RECORDED tv file folder, however HDHRDVR saves a text document separate from the MPRG video file and JellyFin tries to find the media data for this and places incorrect metadata in your JellyFin folder. This is why I just use JellyFin as my DVR.
