Blocking Hdhomerun traffic

Post by whizbo »

I’m attempting to block content from my Hdhomerun to my Roku during certain times of the day. Blocking traffic via IP with my router isn’t working. Maybe the mDNS is wiggling around that method? Is there good method for blocking hdhomerun streams?

Does your router sit between your HDHomeRun and your Roku? In most consumer/home networks, the router is at the perimeter and devices behind it can communicate directly with each other.

Some form of network segmentation may be required.

Both devices are plugged into the router, so I thought it would be able to block traffic, but maybe it isn’t managing traffic between ports. I’ll have to look at sequestering one or the other to their own network.

If you have a dvr engine (other than flex/scribe as it would be same ip as hdhr) it will stream from the ip of the engine.

Also dont forget about blocking both ipv4 and ipv6. And you will also typically need a smart switch as the routers function is to control wan/lan communication, generally not lan/lan though may be more easily able to shutdown roku access from everything during certain times, particularly if wireless.

Vlans can also help but for most using SD's app i don't suggest it.

Were you blocking both the HDHomeRun CONNECT's IP address and your SERVIO's IP address?
