Device registration

Post by Dave521 »

Hi,

Can you check to see if my device ID is registered on your severe side?

My tuner won’t register/be found remotely despite active DVR subscription.

I don’t think I should advertise my device ID here, but I am happy to provide it in a direct email exchange.

Thanks

Along with responding to Dave's request above, can you also provide some insight on why it might be safe or unsafe to post device IDs on this public forum?

What is the Device ID of your HDHomeRun? It is safe to post.

You say "remotely"? The official HDHomeRun app currently only works from a local network connection.

I was under the impression (via Claude) that I would be able to schedule/record/view shows remotely with a DVR subscription.

Is Claude wrong?

Alternatively, Claude has also suggested setting up a local VPN, but I am not sure what the performance/usability might be with this approach- especially if Claude’s base assumption was wrong.

I submitted a separate support ticket with my device ID

Thanks

Probabilistic text generators are not usually good sources of information. They can't say "I don't know" or ask clarify questions, they just predict plausible responses to input.

The HDHomeRun app and DVR system are designed for use within the home. There are third-party apps like Plex and Emby that have their own live TV and DVR systems that can interface with the HDHomeRun hardware and are designed to support remote usage, although they do have their own subscriptions required and need a computer or NAS box to act as a server to handle the DVR functions.
