Greetings,
I have a HDHomeRun Flex 4K that I would like to put on my Main Vlan while my TV (An LG) is located on my IOT Vlan. No matter what rule set I put into the firewall I can't see the tuner from the TV. The Router I have is a Unifi Dream Machine, and the rule I have right now allows the TV access to my main Vlan on any port and (at this point) any device. What am I missing? The HDHomerun does answer a ping from the IOT Vlan when the it's on my Main Vlan.
Thanks in advance for any help,
BK
Unable to find Tuner if not on the same Vlan as TV
Re: Unable to find Tuner if not on the same Vlan as TV
That is expected. The HDHomeRun app uses UDP discovery, which requires both client and HDHomeRun to be on the same local subnetwork.
Re: Unable to find Tuner if not on the same Vlan as TV
That implies that every device that needs to see the tuner is on the same Vlan. I'm sorry but that's not an answer that fits in todays world. your answer needs to be expanded into why it is. what protocols and ports are being used etc.
Not trying to be difficult here, trying to understand. But no one builds a flat network anymore. at least not if they value there privacy and security.

The HDHomeRun supports discovery via IPv6 site-multicast.
If you have IPv6 running with global IP addresses you should be able to configure your VLAN router to pass the site-multicast discovery packet between VLANs.

I have yet to see any evidence that consumers are using anything except flat networks in their homes. I run two physically separate networks (ethernet and wifi) and am the first to admit that is an aberration.somedude wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2026 10:09 am That implies that every device that needs to see the tuner is on the same Vlan.
