Two broadcasters using the same Virtual Channel in San Francisco Market.

Post by klwillis »

I have two separate broadcast using the same virtual channel of 20.1 in the San Francisco market.
20.1 on RF 21 KOFY TV
20.1 on RF 32 KEMO Spanish language channel.
I'm getting both channels at 99 to 100% signal strength.

I want to view 20.1 KOFY on RF 21.
I am using a HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO.
How do I get the HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO to ignore 20.1 on RF 32?
It won't even map 20.1 on RF 21 unless I do scan multiple times; and its hit and miss.
And once I have it mapped if I do another scan it will sometimes overwrite and map back to 20.1 on RF 32.

Both Station are less than 20 miles away and I get a strong signal for both.
Just kind of frustrating not to be able to manually map 20.1 RF 21 and make it stay.

Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Regards
Keith

I've asked for a fix for this before, I don't think there's anything you can do. I'm in the Austin, TX market, and when a background scan runs overnight, one of my virtual channels frequently gets overwritten by a San Antonio channel. In my case I can just run another (ugh) scan during the daytime, but I think you may be stuck until Silicondust decides to address it.

Back in my early electronics days and cable, I used to build notch filters to remove the jamming signal for a VHF station the cable company injected. If you want to spend $50, I see there is a UHF tunable notch filter on fleabay.

Solution for Two broadcasters using the same Virtual Channel in San Francisco Market.

Post by klwillis »

That damn AI is getting too smart. I didn't think to ask gemini until now and it figured out a way I can bypass the device mapping.
This solution is for HDHomeRun user that are also using ChannelsDVR server or those that want to view with VLC or similar streaming viewer.
I know the RF channel I want is 21-7.
And you can directly tune into the RF channel with http://[HDHomeRun-IP]:5004/auto/ch21-7
I created a custom channel in Channels DVR that is directly mapped to the RF channel. and that solved my issue. Now I can choose which one I want to tune into despite both having the same Virtual channel number.

Hope this helps anyone else having the same issue.
And I still think gemini AI is creepy it knew I was using channels dvr somehow.

Thanks all.
