HDHomeRun Prime with cable card can't find new channels

Post by scheibach »

Comcast has added several channels recently but when I refresh the channel list it can't find the new channels. I can get them on my cable box but not on the HDHomeRun. Is there anything else I can try? I really don't want to call Comcast, the reps usually have no idea what a cable card even is.

Almost all new channels added would most likely be iptv rather than qam so you wouldn't get such but you may wish to list location and what channels. You might try retrieving the lineup with the ?show=all parameter and see if they get listed there, personally I like to retrieve the json rather than the html and also add the tuning parameter though if you are in a high split area that may not work with the HSC. Easiest way is to go to the lineup page of the device and change the .html to .json and add ?show=all&tuning so it would look something like http://hdhomerun.local/lineup.json?show=all&tuning (you may see or use an ip address instead). If the channel isn't listed there you are out of luck, some areas may list it but have a frequency of 999Mhz and that would indicate it as more of a placeholder to say the channel number exists but it must access the channel another way such as via sdv or iptv. If the channel exists and has a real frequency but says not subscribed you may be able to convince them to make sure such was provisioned on your cablecards.

Thanks. I looked at the json and don't see the new channels. One of the channels is fox sports 2 and the other is a new channel that was just created to show the Tigers games this year. I am on Comcast in Grand Rapids Michigan.

From what I have read, most areas of comcast FS2 (hd) are strictly iptv... there are a few areas that had an sd version delivered via qam but not the hd version (surprised they have sd versions of such). Most likely the new sports channel is iptv only (though when I checked your area listings they did seem to give 3 numbers for the channel and usually when I have seen a number that low, it has been available via qam but they can use any numbering system they want so that isn't as good of an indicator as it was a few years ago... from what I have been hearing comcast in many areas will cease qam distribution next year and that will be the end of cablecard when that happens.

Thanks so much for the help. I was afraid it was something like that. I checked today and did notice an sd version of FS2 but not the new channel. The web streaming is better than the SD channel so not a big deal. I guess I am lucky they haven't pulled the plug on the cable card altogether since it's no longer required.
