Finally signed up for DVR, but it won't work

Post by tjp »

I've had my Flex 4 for years. It has been working perfectly. I finally decided to signup for the DVR license. But I can't get it working.
Here's what I have done:
1) I connected a 1TB Samsung T7 solidstate USB drive to the Flex 4.
2) The Flex 4 detected the drive and I gave it the go ahead to format the drive. After a minute it successfully formatted it.
3) I purchased the DVR service ($35).
4) Using the same credentials that I used during the purchase I entered those in the Flex 4 under the DVR settings.
It now shows that the DVR is enabled.
5) From a HDhomerun client I select a show to record. The guide also shows the red dot for that show.
6) If I check the "tuner status" during the time a show should be being recorded I see that no tuners are active.
7) When I later check for shows under the "Recorded" menu I get "Your HDhomerun DVR wasn't found"
8) I rebooted the Flex 4 and tried again with a new recording. Same results.

I've followed several troubleshooting methods for this, but they all assume I can't see the Flex 4 at all. It's just recordings that aren't working. The tuners are working perfectly.

Any ideas?

We would like to get some diagnostic data:
  1. Please go to http://hdhomerun.local
  2. If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
  3. Click System Status
  4. Check the Send diagnostic information box
  5. Make sure the USB hard drive is plugged in to the HDHomeRUn
  6. Unplug the HDHomeRun from power for a few seconds, then plug it back into power

Reply back to this post and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.

Not seeing any diagnostic logs come through...

You can also enable by launching the HDHomeRun app, going into Settings, and enabling "send diagnostic information.

Whoops.
Ok, I've enabled it and scheduled another recording.

Nick you're too fast for me :-)
I am trying different drives.
I just tried it with a different USB drive and the DVR is now working. I guess it just didn't like the Samsung T7.

Thank you for your prompt and much appreciated support.

Many have reported needing other cables with the T7 with various equipment. I'd also double check it's partition table (preferably with linux)
