After about a decade of running the Westen Digital mycloud NAS for my DVR, (Thank you Kickstarter) ,it has started to die. I have purchased a Synology DS224+ for my NAS with 2 4TB hdd's. I have the NAS set up and updated to the latest software and firmware from Synology. I have followed all the instructions from Silicondust on installing the DVR software on the Synology NAS. I did the manual install of the package as instructed by Silicondust. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of HDHomerun. I made sure my account information is current. When I go to the DVR install on the HDHomerun setup, it says store recordings on Western Digital NAS device with a NAS install button next to it. I don't know why it says Western Digital NAS device, since it has been removed from the network. When I click the NAS install button, I get a small window showing my router and my DS224+. I double click the NAS icon and the install window pops up. It gives me a security alert about Revocation information on the security certificate and an SSH username and password window. I enter my admin name and password for the NAS and then I click proceed. I get a bunch of script errors which I click through and I get this:
Model: DS224+
SSH Enabled: Ok
SSH Session: Ok
NAS Architecture: x86_64
HDHomeRun Share: Ok
Installing Service: Ok
Configuring Service: Ok
Starting Service: Error
Service start failed
Unable to install
I don't know what to do from this point. I did open ssh port 22 to install the package on the NAS.
Please help.
Problems moving to Synology ds224+ for DVR.
Re: Problems moving to Synology ds224+ for DVR.
We have a package for Synology... instructions here:

Re: Problems moving to Synology ds224+ for DVR.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Those are the instructions I followed and that is the package I installed. It failed.

I have gone through the process a couple of times and it always fails.

Re: Problems moving to Synology ds224+ for DVR.
I don't believe you would have seen what you posted if you followed those instructions as Synology uses a package, not the windows based NAS installer which won't work (thus the need for the package), Don't even look at the windows based installer/setup as it is not needed and don't worry about where it says to record, that really only configures if the PC itself should be the record engine. Keep in mind it won't have a proper synology certificate and you will be required to allow such 3rd party packages installed. I believe such setting is found in Package Center > Settings > General > Trust Level and to allow any publisher... I believe after install you can set it back but I got rid of my synologies when they started to require their own drives so can't test (it may also require such again be set on a restart to get things running but I believe it is just for installing). In some cases a NAS restart might be required after changing such settings (but ensure such got set... some suggest just restarting the package center.
Personally I would probably go for the docker install if your NAS allows such but I believe the 224+ has its own container manager that often works but isn't fully docker compliant as it is missing something that lets such run better but I don't believe there should be anything in the docker container that would need such setting.
