ugh.

We need one of those yellow guys rolling the width of the screen to bang his head into the wall!

While setting something else up in the office, I had a sudden flash.

While debugging, I had tried plugging it into an unused ethernet port in my modem--but the network that we connect to it is mesh wifi; I initially set it up plugged into that. (I still haven't figured out how to shut the unsecured wifi network off). Yet somehow in my mind, I was forgetting that the ports on the modem and the wifi network were the same network..

So I reconnected, and powered up, and it picked up all the channels (upstairs) again.

I thought that I had mentioned it, but I don't see it in the history: around when I noticed the red blinking light, it also lost *all* of its recordings. It kept most or all of the tasks, but a couple were changed to programs I'd never heard of.

So, anyway, with all of the channels working, but with nothing recorded, I started this post.

And when I got to mentioning the red flashing light, it occurred to me that I'd never put the hard drive back in! (or the bottom.)

So I went back up and reassembled it. The red light is still flashing, but it says ready to record. we'll se in another 20 minutes or so if the test program is actually recording, I suppose.

But the red light is still blinking. I'll try to take it downstairs tomorrow to see if it can still find channels.

Edit, a couple of hours later: it's not recording, although it's tuning. I attempted two in progress shows, and one that wouldn't start for 20 minutes.

New hard drive or ssd?

The drive does appear to have failed. SSD or HDD is fine, as long as it is SATA and 7mm in height (almost all SSDs are 7mm, but HDDs are usually only available up to 2TB in 7mm and anything larger is 9mm or 15mm). Stick with major name brands and avoid sketchy drives from China.
