Manual Recording?

Post by Cheese Food Product »

Is there a way to initiate a manual recording? In my television market, there are two channels that I would like to record but the channel guide says “NO GUIDE INFORMATION AVAILABLE” and the channel itself doesn’t have a record button on the information dock at the bottom, like other channels, so I don’t see a way to set up a recording. Am I missing something?

The official dvr won't allow such as it needs the metadata so first you should probably open a guide issues thread (in the guide part of the forum at viewforum.php?f=127 ) to see if they can fix that but note the channel must have a name and virtual channel number (usually not a problem for ota channels, but often cable won't have the proper psip data and occasionally it may be a channel they dont have data for).

You can make a manual recording with a browser (or can be a scheduled task to get such) but to be available for the dvr engine to serve, the file recorded that way wont be available unless you also put 64 ts packets at the start of the file (a bit over 12000 bytes) that includes the metadata for the show that would look like a json but ts packets have a few bytes at the start of each thus breaking it up a bit (there have been some tools posted to generate this but often get removed when there have been no responses for awhile to the thread). If you are recording on a flex, scribe, or servio getting the file there to be served can also be a challenge and would be easier if engine is on a nas or pc, and you could set an engine up on such to not record and just be to serve such manual recordings if you really only wanted the flex/scribe to do the normal recordings.
