The signal is pretty bad on everything coming from 1WTC, while those coming from the Empire State Building are noticeably better. Where are you located and what antenna are you using?

I'm 30 miles from the transmitters to the north and west and have no issues. No amps or preamps in use. Mid range medium size outdoor antenna 20 feet off the ground.

The ridge line about 2 miles SE of you blocks clear line of sight to the various broadcast sites. When the radio waves hit the edge of this, some of them diffract down to put some signal into the area behind the hill. This kind of signal is much weaker than direct line of sight, and much less clear since the varying shape of the ridge means you can get different signals coming off different areas all reaching your antenna at different times due to the slightly different length of the path, and these can interfere with each other, known as multipath interference. Dealing with this if you have an antenna already mounted outdoors is difficult, as the best thing to do is move the antenna around to try to find a better spot. You're likely to find different hot and cold spots for each station, especially from 1WTC as there are 2 distinct UHF antennas. WCBS, WWOR/WRNN, WPXN, and WMBC are on the top antenna, while WNJU/WNBC, WNYW, and WLIW are on the lower antenna, and the 80' difference between them will make a difference in this kind of situation. A larger, more directional antenna may also need to be considered.
