Poor symbol quality

Post by jsturm »

Details:

HDHomeRun FLEX QUATRO
Hardware Model HDFX-4US
Firmware Version 2025081
Device ID 10B13DC6

Virtual Channel 2.1
Frequency 177.000 MHz
Program Number 3

Problem:

Poor video quality on this station:

Signal Strength 100%
Signal Quality 100%
Symbol Quality 4%

Most channels are fine. This one started to be a problem a week ago (after working fine for two years). I'm running the latest firmware. I've had some suggestions to adjust my antenna (not easy, requires attic access) and install attenuators (have one on order).

Before I give up on OTA, is there anything else I can try?

Do you have anything that is amplifying the tv signal (something that powers the antenna) or any new LED lights or WI-FI router (any wifi device) close to the antenna? Could also be a bad power supply. Hopefully one of the SD folks can look at the logs and see if there is anything that tells us what the issue could be.

Thank you for the suggestions. This is a passive antenna I have installed in the attic.

There is a wifi access point on the main floor below the antenna. I will unplug it tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

If you want the SD folks to take a look, you're going to need to check the "Send diagnostic information" checkbox on the HDHomeRun's webpage, along with posting your device ID.

Good I think you posted over at Channels and I believe you said you are only 15 miles from the towers. I wouldn't think you would need an amplified antenna. The only reason I said about wifi devices is that I had a wireless security camera in my garage that was wireless and I basically had an antenna 5 feet from it pointing right at it and got all kinds of interference from it. So I moved mine to the middle half of the garage away from it and my reception stopped having all these weird random swings in reception. So sometimes it can be as basic as just moving it to a different location.

Yes I posted in channels first. I have two access points in my home, I tried turning off the one closest to my antenna but it did not help. I’m open to the idea this is interference but I haven’t pinned down the source yet.
