HDHR app will not start on MacOS Tahoe

Post by marks »

Hi, I cannot get the HD Homerun app to start. I believe the problem started after I upgrade to macOS Tahoe but I cannot be certain.
The HDHR app introduction displays with the normal explosion demo then the screen goes black.
I tried rebooting my Mac and also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HDHR app, but I am still having the problem.
I am not having the problem on my Iphone or Apple TV.

Apple seems to have made some significant changes under the hood in Tahoe that are causing playback issues. We are working on an app update.

Hi, I installed the update to the HDHR app on my Mac today which has MacOS Tahoe 26.0.1, but I am still having the same problem getting a black screen after the HDH intro explosion screen occurs. I was not sure if the update was supposed to resolve this problem or still being worked on?

Progress... the black screen is caused by the HDHomeRun app not finding only a record engine, no HDHomeRun tuner.

1) Please check your HDHomeRun tuner is on the same network/subnet as your Mac.

2) We will fix the UI to report the issue rather than show a black screen.

HI, my Mac is connected via Ethernet to the same router as my Windows laptop in which the HDHR app is working, so I am not sure why the Mac would not be working unless Tahoe changed some access ability to the Tuner. I tried turning off the Firewall in MacOS but that did not help. I am not sure what else to check. I also checked Settings->Privacy and Security->Local Network and HDHomerun app is in the list.

Are you seeing a "no HDHomeRun tuners found" message with the option to Retry?

What is the Device ID of your HDHomeRun?

Does the Mac have a static IP set by any chance?

Device id is: 1073EFFC

I don't think my Mac has a static IP since I did not change anything to make it static and I don't even know how to do that :)

Also, when I try to use from my browser http://1073effc.local/
it just hangs.

Is the IP of your Mac 192.168.1.x?

Does http://1073effc.local/ work on your Windows PC?

Are you running a VPN service on your Mac that is blocking LAN communication?

FYI, I tried disconnecting my ethernet cable from the Mac and just used Wifi and now I can access both the HDHR app and the http://1073effc.local/
So, I wonder what changed to not allow the Ethernet connection to the HDHR tuner.
I have another Mac that has Sequoia version and has the same problem as my Mac with Tahoe.

Another piece of information is my ethernet connected Cannon printer will only connect more recently if I also enable wifi on my Mac which used to work with just Ethernet.
Normally I have wifi turned off on my Macs.

I am wondering now if the Ethernet connection issue both the HDHR tuner access problem and my printer problem is due to a Apple problem in their most recent MacOS updates.
If you think it is time for me to contact Apple support let me know.

Most folks maybe using Wifi on their Macs which might be why they have not noticed the Ethernet connection issue to HDHR.

Does it detect if WiFi only, and if Ethernet only? ie is the problem only when both are connected?

Hi,
the problem occurs when:
1.Wifi and Ethernet are both connected
2.Wifi is disabled and Only Ethernet is connected

HDHR work fine when:
3.Wifi is enabled and Ethernet is disconnected
