I have just unboxed and set up my HDHomeRun FlexQuatro, but unfortunately I have discovered that my TV aerial doe snot work. Whilst I am waiting for a new aerial to be fitted, I thought I would consider what sort of setup I should use.
I have an Emby server running on Windows and have installed the HDHomeRun software on the same machine. I configured HDHomeRun to store recordings in a folder on the Emby server - the idea being that I could access the recordings using Emby in addition to the HDHomeRun app. My primary use-case will be watching & recording via the HDHomeRun app installed on NVIDIA Shield Pro, but I thought it might be useful to be able to access the recordings from Emby.
Does this sound sensible?
Will it work? I.e. if I make the HDHR recording folder on the PC accessible as an Emby library, will Emby automagically see the recordings that HDHR makes?
The latter point would allow me to potentially remotely access both Live TV and recordings via Emby, bypassing the checks that HDHR app uses. It is admittedly an edge-case, but might prove useful occasionally. I appreciate that I might not be able to set up new recordings on HDHR remotely, but could use the recording capabilities of Emby for this and/or use remote desktop to the Windows PC (via VPN) and use the HDHR app on windows. I do not intend to watch TV using remote desktop over VPN, but it would be interesting to see if what sort of quality could be achieved
Please feel free to comment and/or shoot me down etc, I am thick skinned and open to advice. My current hardware arrangement works well for me, so unless absolutely necessary, I would prefer to keep everything on my Windows PC. I have a Linux server that I can use and can spin up another via Proxmox if needed, but I like a simple life
