DVR: Prioritize channels within a series recording?

Post by Cabal »

Is there a way to prioritize channels within a series recording, or another approach to accomplish similar? After some networking closet re-org, I'm back to a single 4x tuner with attached USB drive for my DVR. College Football (as named in the guide) can play on up to 5 channels simultaneously, Fox/ABC/NBC/CBS/CW. I would like to prioritize the CW last, but I can't seem to find a way to do that. I've tried:

- Prioritize a channel within the series recording. There doesn't seem to be a way to do that.

- Set up a second series recording for College Football with just the CW chosen, and use the existing task priority functionality. Nope.

My current approach is to choose just the 4 "important" channels and lose any CW recordings if they would happen without overlap of the other 4. Is there another approach that would work?

The DVR will favor recording from channels you mark as favorite.

To mark channels as favorites go into Settings, Channels, and click on the channel to toggle the star.

In theory a channel only rule with the proper order selected was able to do such but it's been a long time since I tested it and I'm not sure the app submits anything other than the complete list in numerical order currently. At one time I believe such selection was even backwards when it did support such. Currently without a working prime it would be hard for me to test prior to Saturday as it is rare for same show to be on multiple channels at same time. It is also possible the backend no longer supports such as they no longer appear to mention the pipe separated list being in order of preference.

If only cw last, you could favorite the others.

Note that in the case of overlapping times (which can be many, particularly if you add padding) it will most likely continue recording anything currently being recorded and may still be short a tuner... best get more tuners.

You can only have one series rule for a given series. (You can have any number of one-time rules for the series in addition to the one series rule). The order of the channel numbers submitted when added/modifying a rule is not relevant.

Channel order is based on a priority scheme. The DVR will favor favorite channels first, then HD channels, then OTA over cable. etc.
