LG WebOS error

Post by markthulson »

I've been using an HDHomeRun FLEX 4K with a 4 TB USB drive as a DVR for some time and it works great, including with the webOS HDHomeRun app on an LG TV. As of last night, however, it doesn't work and this is what appears on the screen:

Version 202508122
Using webOS API (LG)
Discovering WebOS devices...
webOS Discover error
SyntaxError: Unexpected end of JSON input
No HDHomeRun devices found on the network; cannot continue

I can see from my router attached devices screen that both the HDHomeRun and the TV are on the same wired network.

Any ideas?

My iPhone and Windows 11 PC apps work fine, by the way.

Discovery with webOS differs from the regular broadcast discovery the other apps you mentioned use (I believe it uses dlna/upnp). Sometimes this can be problematic and with some devices may even require fewer devices on the network as they may ignore some after they reach a certain amount (not sure if lg has such limit, but it can have issues with such discovery for other reasons and such can be intermittent). When one of my bedroom tv's has this problem usually unplugging it and plugging it back in works (provided it has worked fairly well before... one room often always has trouble but that location is a combination of moca and wifi).

I started having the same exact issue on two of my LG TVs yesterday. I tried the unplugging method, but I am left with the same issue. I also submitted a ticket this morning, so hopefully I can get some answers and share on this forum.

I didn't unplug my TV (access to the cord is difficult where I have it mounted), but I did turn it completely off and back on. I also turned off the cable modem, router, network switch. and HDHomeRun tuner; then powered them back on in that order. I still have the same problem.

We are seeing a number of reports of this issue. Engineering is investigating.

It looks like LG doesn't like the updated SSL certificate used by our API servers.

The SSL certificate was updated a few days ago as part of the normal 1 year renew cycle. Same provider.

We are looking into solutions...

LG is back working.

We added another link in certificate chain good until 2028 to correct for root certificate missing from LG televisions.
