Reception issues with one channel

Post by sushisam »

Hello, I was hoping to get some help about a reception issue I'm seeing. I had been able to receive a channel pretty well where signal quality was in the 70's, but it was still watchable as symbol quality was 100%. However, starting this week, the channel constantly freezes/gets pixelated. According to rabbitears.info I am 14.2 miles from the transmitter for this station (KAAP-LD). These are the channels listed:

Display Channel Physical Channel Video. Audio Call Sign Network/Programming Nickname
24-01 24.18 480i (w) DD2.0 Diya TV Diya TV
24-03 24.3 480p DD2.0 Antenna Antenna TV
24-06 24.23 480i DD2.0 VBS [Blank]
24-07 24.2 480p (w) DD2.0 OANPlus One America Plus
24-08 24.4 480p (w) DD2.0 AWEPlus AWE Plus
24-10 24.16 480p (w) DD2.0 JTV Jewelry TV
24-11 24.12 480i DD2.0 QVC QVC
24-12 24.13 480i DD2.0 QVC2 QVC2
30-01 24.22 480p (w) DD2.0 KMMC-LD Estrella TV
30-02 24.10 480i (w) DD2.0 Novlsma Mas Show

I can receive all channels just fine except for 24-03 (of course it's the only one I want to watch). For all of the channels on this frequency, the tuner status shows signal strength in 90s, signal quality in 70s, and symbol quality is 100 (even for 24-03). I understand signal quality in the 70s is not ideal, but I'm using a small indoor antenna. My question is since I can receive all of the other channels on this frequency just fine, does it seem to be a problem on the broadcast side specifically for channel 24-03, or can a bigger antenna help reception for this channel? I am assuming that since they are on the same frequency a bigger antenna would not help, but if someone could shed some light on what could be happening, that would be great. I also tried using a 5G/LTE filter, but there was no difference.

Thank you.

We would like to get some diagnostic data:
  1. Please go to http://hdhomerun.local
  2. If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
  3. Click System Status
  4. Check the Send diagnostic information box
  5. Go back one page
  6. Click Channel Lineup
  7. Click on Detect Channels

Reply back to this post and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.

Hi Ned, thank you for your response! I followed your instructions (I installed the 20250815 firmware a couple days ago to see if it would help, but didn't notice any difference with reception). Here is the device ID: 10971635

Thank you!

If a single subchannel is bad and the rest are good, then that's a problem on the station's end. KAAP-LD is owned by Major Market Broadcasting. You can try contacting them via their web form at https://majormarketbroadcasting.com/contact/ or there are an email address and phone number on the page as well.
