Hi, I am in the 07034 zip code area in NJ and my TV reception has got much worse on a number channels over about the last year or so I am not sure what changed but I suspect maybe more cell towers were added perhaps or the TV broadcast towers maybe became weaker.
I am using a HD Homerun Quattro box and I also have the HD LTE/5G Homerun filter I added a few years ago which definitely helped, but now some channels are getting very choppy again.
What can I do to help my reception?
Note: I do have a HD Homerun Flex 4K box that I do not have hooked up currently. Would that get better reception than the Quattro?
I am only about 25 miles from NYC and my ANTOP antenna is on the roof.
TV reception has gotten worse over time
Re: TV reception has gotten worse over time
We would like to get some diagnostic data to see what is happening:
- In a web browser go to http://hdhomerun.local
NOTE: That address will go do the first HDHomeRun device found on your network. If you have more than one HDHomeRun device, use the "device ID" printed on the bottom of the unit instead of "hdhomerun" in the address. For example, if your device ID was 104FFFFF then you would go to http://104fffff.local - If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
- Click "System Menu"
- Check the "Send diagnostic information" box (if this box is already checked, please un-check then re-check it)
- Go back one page
- Click "Channel Lineup"
- Click on "Detect Channels"
Re: TV reception has gotten worse over time
Hi, I performed the steps you indicated. My device id is: 1073EFFC
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: TV reception has gotten worse over time
There were three scans in your diagnostic data, and the first two showed fairly weak signal. The third and most recent scan shows very healthy signal level. Did you change/fix something on your side, and are you getting better reception now?
Re: TV reception has gotten worse over time
Hi, I did not change anything. The reception does seem better now on challenge like 9 and 11 channels that were red or yellow are now green. Strange; however,
the channels 33.1, 33.3, 33.8 and 37.1 which I all like are yellow and spotty.

Re: TV reception has gotten worse over time
You haven't mentioned here what kind of antenna you're using? Indoor, outdoor.........?
Re: TV reception has gotten worse over time
I am using an ANTOP Big Boy antenna outside on the house roof. I think the model is AT-400BV.
Re: TV reception has gotten worse over time
33.x broadcasts on low VHF channel 3. You're doing well to be able to receive it at all, as that antenna is not designed to receive low VHF. You can consider replacing the antenna with something much larger that can receive low VHF more reliably, but also be aware that most of the channels that are on 33.x are also available on 43.x, which has a better signal, and also that 33.x has a permit to relocate to 1WTC, which will put them about 400' higher up, and boost power by about 50%, both of which should help your reception. Not sure when the move will happen as they are coordinating it with stations in Philly and Atlantic City, but they are working on it.
