I’ve tried numerous times to set this setting to ON and close out the app, reopen it and it keeps going to the Discovery tab, and when I check this setting is OFF. Is this a bug or am I missing a save setting somewhere?

Works fine here on 8 android units I tested.
How many hdhr's do you have? It will always skip live tv if there have been changes in detected devices since last launch. Also if you toggle between new features or not may also go back there but often it will remember the setting to start with. Do you have a record engine working? Is it nearly full? Most of the things in this paragraph will start in settings or devices rather than discover.
in testing changing between new features and not this just now, one time it restarted and I selected live tv and after that got a 404 for any button press (displayed error top left of screen) and absolutely no ui and had to find my remote with a working home button (I prefer cec as I have too many devices and home on that remote is for the tv's os and doesn't get passed through) and then force stop to reload otherwise it just started where it was. That also brings up the point how you exited (did you keep hitting back which is proper exit, or did you hit home).

I have two HDHRs. No changes. No DVR as I use NextPVR. I have two Shield TV Pros that both have this issue. As I only use the HDHR app to watch live sports once a week, it’s not used often and only the live tab.
