DRM Channels Blocked Overnight

Post by adlsl »

Today is March 8th as of this morning I can watch any DRM protected channels from my COX Cable provider on two of my devices but all was working for years as of yesterday. I have two Google Chromecast Dongles and also the HDHOMERUN App on my Android Phone. The Google device that works is on the same WiFi network as the App on the Android Phone that does not work. The other Google device that stopped working is hardwired with an ethernet cable to the same router serving WiFi. I have tried to update the HDHOMERUN Apps but it seems I have the latest devices loaded. I reset and cleared the data from the HDHOMERUN Apps but still only one Google Device works and others will not access DRM channels. I can view all non-DRM channels on all devices.

None of the Android devices at the moment can do DRM of any KIND.

Actually your reply is not correct. One of my Android Devices (a Google TV Chromecast Dongle) works fine on all the DRM channels. The other identical Google TV dongle does not. Also none of my Android devices or WIN10 HDHOMERUN work on DRM channels.

Perhaps the one Google Device I have that is working has an unexpired certificate?

This is now a recurring nightmare. If the device won't work without external APIs or services, the device is basically useless. We aren't stealing TV and we are investing in what may be considered non-traditional methods of delivery albeit legitimate.

I know I said this once before but I'm much closer to the end of the road with the cablecard device. If it can't reliably work, I'm not going to keep paying Spectrum for the few DRM-free channels. Time is ticking...

Having the same issue with PRIME. Now my non-DRM channels won’t load. Did a reboot and still nothing. Slowly had issues 4 days ago with some of my Shield Pros and now all but one work. It’s definitely seems like a certificate issue with the API.

Same for me on Samsung tablets and Ultra smartphone AGAIN! Did all the historic steps to correct - rescan, reload, etc. with no change. Agree it must be API AGAIN.

I called Silicon Dust about this and left a message. They actually called me back! They said that the way Google TV does the DRM now has changed and it requires SiliconDust to have to re-write their program function. I was told however, it's such a new way that the developers will have to learn the new system from scratch and it will most likely be several months before this works again.

I have been encouraged to keep contacting them every week about this to follow up on their progress. I have only done two calls and need to call in again to let them know that it's something that is definitely needed. It might be a good idea for others that want this to work again, to call as well and inquire. Their number is +1 (925) 233-2240

Hopefully it will be fixed up sooner than later. :)

before you decide to become a pester pleaser you might want to give the research team at silicondust all the room they need so they can work-out this new-fangled hoop google threw at them.

The question is what have they been doing for the month since this first 'broke.' And what relationships have they been nurturing and maintaining all along to keep from getting blindsided as well as lobbying to prevent these kinds of disruptive changes.

They have deprioritized Home Run since they gave up on DRM recording in the first place (after numerous promises) and began chasing the pipe dream of NextGen TV. They need to be reminded of the people who bought all their boxes in good faith and now have paperweights.

Please don't harass our phone guy, he's a really nice guy and has no control over how fast the DRM issue is taken care of. You can skip the call, because Nick on the forums here is literally the guy who does the DRM stuff. He also owns the company. He already reads all your messages here. This is important to him, and he has every intention of getting it working on Android again.

@NedS - Sorry, my intention wasn't to encourage harassment but rather to inform users on how they could be heard. Meaning, it's not always apparent from the forums if an issue is being worked on or will continue to be supported. Especially when it comes to Cable Card related tech, which is specifically what I'm having issues with. I agree that your phone guy is a really nice guy and I'm super appreciative that he has called me back the couple of times I left messages.

Thanks!

Know this has been an issue with the Android devices, but having an issue with my AppleTV also not being able to play DRM channels.

Specifically FS1 on FiOS. No error just a black screen, Android/Shield shows the usual DRM error.

Works fine on my Windows devices.
