That is for scheduled DVR recordings, not manual tuning. For manual tuning, it shows you the status of what you clicked on.

For DRM channels, you may wish to remove it from your listing for now (red X in the channel editor).

Saw some discussion on the "Channels" app with AppleTV and wanted clarification.

If I have a HDHR 4k Flex --> router --> AppleTV --> Channels App, can I watch the DMR 3.0 channels live?

Or was this being discussed only as a preferable 1.0 setup...

There are NO apps that will decrypt DRM ATSC 3.0 channels. DRM only works for ATSC 3.0 with a direct connection via HDMI.

Currently DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 channels may only be received by TV sets with 3.0 capable off-air tuners. Or through a few 3.0 Nexgen certified STB devices on the market that connect by HDMI cable to a TV set.

A3SA had only provided a path forward for Android platforms at the moment. I have been given the impression that a non-technical issue/disagreement is currently blocking progress on that. Nick is still working on a public shame letter addressed to the A3SA and other relevant authorities.

We remain hopeful that the A3SA might yet come to their senses.

So, it's almost been a month since this nugget. Not that a "strongly worded letter" is usually a good sign, but anything happening here?

I'm losing hope and increasingly thinking I'm just saving space for V2 of the 6 tuner cablecard debacle.

One blurb in the article mentioned this, and I'm not sure what it means (if anything) for folks like me who really wish my Silicon Dust 4K tuners could handle DRM.

"For off-air applications, it is possible to use inexpensive integrated receiver/decoders (IRDs) that do not offer decryption but are equipped with encrypted IP stream outputs via DASH/ROUTE or the recently approved ALP A/330 Link-Layer Protocol, it said.

Mediaproxy appears to have certs for monitoring, diagnostics, etc, for station engineers and such. It's not something that home users/customers can use.

That echoes what I heard on the AVS forum. Hopefully you guys can figure out a way to break DRM on an affordable add-on device for each TV. I would go for that.

On a COMPLETELY unrelated subject, I have no idea if the A3SA approved competing products that deliver ATSC 3.0 via HDMI have their HDMI cables hardwired in or not, but...
If they are hardwired into the tuner box and someone were to plug both a female to female HDMI adapter, and a 4K HDMI EDID dummy plug, and then output the dummy plug to a video playback program, what would happen?

I don't understand why you attach significance to whether the devices use hard-wired cables, or the usual female HDMI connector. However I'd be reluctant to buy a device with a hard-wired cable because that's a sign of a cheaply-made device, and the device will be useless if the cable fails. You can convert the gender of any HDMI connection (with adapters) in order to achieve the connection you need. If you're trying to find a way to defeat HDCP copy protection, I don't think we want to discuss that here. However, I'm confident what you described will not defeat HDCP.

Lon reviewed two set top boxes on youtube and reported that neither did HDCP when playing encrypted channels.

I am a bit lost. I am using an Antenna with a Flex 4K and the HDHomeRun app on Android Televisions (two Sonys and a HiSense). Seemingly, I have two problems stemming from DRM.

1) the DRM Protected channels won't function on my Android TV (though I think this behavior is expected based on the Q&A in the first post). I tune to them and get varying levels of "Need Decryption" depending on which stream it is, but one of them simply says "No Video)

I wonder if it's because of the way the channels are laid out, and maybe someone can answer this for me. So, for instance, the normal 1080i stream of CBS is channel 5.1, while the HEVC Stream (presumably 1080p or higher) is 105.1. When I attempt to tune to 105.1, it just puts up a black screen with a message about decryption and doesn't auto-tune back to 5.1. Is this expected behavior? All of the channels in question are 1xx.x and they align with their xx.x counterparts (5.1 105.1, 9.1 109.1, 29.1 129.1, etc).

If it is supposed to be auto-tuning back to the non DRM version of the channel, I would like this ability, though, I suppose it's just as easy to hide the channels entirely (though, if I do that, I wouldn't have a way to check if the problem has been solved in the future without hoop jumping).

I think it's kind of crazy that normal broadcast stations have implemented DRM protection...

all of the HDhomerun products are tune specific and does not auto-tune back to the non-drm counter-parts and yes you can hide the drm encrypted channels you can unhide them by way the same means to hide them, in the menu select the channels in the channels list scroll to the channel you want to hide and click three times til you see a red x in the channel header to unhide scroll to the channel then click the channel two times til you see a grey star in the channel header easy as pie.

For recordings if the ATSC 3.0 channel is unavailable for any reason the DVR will automatically fall back to recording the 1.0 channel (unless you explicitly lock down the channel you want the recording to occur on). The logic is you are recording a show, not a channel.

For live TV you are selecting a specific channel.
