HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
I've read that statement in other forums. If so why doesn't A3SA pull/block the products authroization until a firmware patch is pushed out to the existing customers. And that patch also has a lot better A3SA certification the what happened orriginally. Other companies working on a DRM solution are losing potential cistomers.
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
It doesn't really matter much though (a single tuner STB). If you pay attention, no one has DVR certified for DRM yet. The earliest estimate published is sometime in Oct 2023. HDHomerun tuners have a lot in common with those DVR products. And has nothing in common with those single tuner STBs. Broadcasters with DRM tuned on are more scared of theft of original broadcast streams than the HDMI dump (i think they will fix the loop hole eventually).
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Is the capture of live OTA via unencryptrd HDMI any different theft of original broadcast streams.
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
I'm sure the intent of the broadcaster turning on DRM was for an STB to proved user access/capture to the unencrypted programing. Makes sense to me. maybe that's what pearltv was talkinjg about when they indicated ATSC 3.0 would expand broadcasters business model.
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Are you trying to describe widevine L1, L2, and L3. I'll have to go back and re-view the youtube video and see if it indicates the capture was L3.
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
No, not at all. The video at HDMI is fully decoded and decompressed display data which is not the same thing as the broadcast transport stream which for ATSC 3.0 is H.265 compressed. A typical ATSC 3.0 station in my area has a bit rate of around 4 to 5 Mbps. An 1080p display stream from HDMI is around 10+ Gbps. The stations are worried about IPTV re-broadcasting.
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Unless I read the release notes wrong and I am looking at them now, they will have DRM to "view" the channels any time now. Only it will be Oct before you can record or play them.
Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
And which is what's so discouraging, as the specific holdup recently described by Nickk, is a problem with the A3SA's licensing servers that should be very easy for them to correct.
Yet after many months now, the A3SA still haven't done it.
It's like they don't want to or it's intentional to keep the gateway devices like the HDFX-4K disabled....
