Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Do channels that do not use DRM employ security certificates? The number of moving parts/implementations here isn't clear to me.
Yes, according to the response filed by Weigle in the NextGen docket after their testing, they found that even channels without DRM would put up a nag screen ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
No. Channels that are not DRM encrypted will always work on the HDHomeRun. This is not something we will compromise on.
Question, what if the station lets the security certificate expire? It happens, especially with all the consolidation happening things get lost or ignored. Because it's ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
So then I guess if the HDHomerun Flex 4K/HD Homerun app doesn’t receive DRM capabilities from A3SA and high noon was to go into effect, all ATSC 3.0 stations, regardless of whether they use DRM encryption or not, would become unwatchable for us?
No. Channels that are not DRM encrypted will ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Thanks for correcting me. So what is the expected behavior of the HDHR app on all supported platforms should “high noon” get turned on at some point? Perhaps many stations are already compliant with the requirements for “high noon”?
That is hard to say since no gateway app is approved by A3SA ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
I’ve been catching up on the “high noon” discussions for ATSC 3.0. Setting aside whether we agree with whether the high noon should or shouldn’t happen, does the fact that the HD Homerun Flex 4K device is Nextgen TV Certified mean that we will be able to watch channels that jump through the “high ...

Apparently Pearl doesn't understand that (or want to).HoTst2 wrote: Tue Jul 29, 2025 5:06 am And if there's no actual decryption of content to take place in the gateway device to begin with. Why is the inclusion of this supposed "Google Widevine Level 1 CDM" on the SoC necessary anyway?

Re: Encryption
I scrolled back and it has been 4 months since the last time someone politely asked for an update and was admonished for being high maintenance. I saw a firmware update drop this week but it doesn't look like it has anything related. Has SD just moved on?
As I understand how this works, the SD ...

Re: Encryption
I'm pretty sure that > 2/3 of my OTA video spectrum is already being wasted on infomercials and very old reruns. Obsolete encoding is not the problem, IMHO. We desperately need new content to keep any ATSC version relevant.
I've watched an industry I spent 50 years working in rapidly move to ...

Re: Encryption
In a recent episode of Lon.tv, he discussed a report from the FCC regarding ATSC 3.0. The report was about the ongoing discussions of the various industry and consumer groups about all things ATSC 3.0. I assume, though I may be wrong, that these are the discussions that SD has been involved in for ...

Re: Encryption
Found the manual. To watch on your "personal electronic device (PED)" the stb functions as a hot spot. You need to change your wifi connection off your home internet. That would make it pretty locked down which would satisfy A3SA. I'll pass since it would take my phone or tablet off the internet and ...
