Pardon my complete lack of understanding here... but is that why the CableCard HDHR won't work on AndoridTV devices? The same thing that's preventing getting A3SA certified is preventing get recertified at the correct level because of the chip?

So basically we are now very limited to using a subset ...

Maybe the "solution" will be to have multiple levels of certification and badging.

ATSC3/NextGenTV Certified - Can receive ATSC3 signals. Should be able to watch unencrypted channels.
A3SA Certified - Can actually watch these channels if you're connected to the Internet.

Haven't used this specifically with SD HDHR devices but I've used them for many others.

The problem is not a cert expiring. The problem is the validation of the Android system that needs to happen when renewing the certificate.

CableCARD DRM channels work on Windows, XBox, and iPhone/iPad with the new certificates.


Validation of the Android system shouldn't take two months every ...

This is now a recurring nightmare. If the device won't work without external APIs or services, the device is basically useless. We aren't stealing TV and we are investing in what may be considered non-traditional methods of delivery albeit legitimate.
