Latest software/UI/firmware: Win10 HDHR app is missing "DVR"

Post by DSperber »

What happened to the "DVR" button on the latest 20250515 UI for Windows? It's missing. So no way to get into settings, or go to DVR, schedule, etc.

Just installed the latest updates into my Win10 system: 20250316 (app), 20250515 (UI), HDHR Setup 20250506

Launching HDHR app on Win10 presents new "flaming" animation, and then initial homescreen.

If I go to "LIVE" I can do almost all of what I should be able to do. Except where the "DVR" button used to be it is no longer. So I cannot get back to Settings, or Recordings, etc.

There certainly used to be a "DVR" button before.

And as far as I know my account (ID 10A236FF) still has DVR/Guide service.

Am I missing something?

What exactly are you looking for as "backstage" is the X button which has always seems to have done the same thing (for a while they labeled this button DVR which isn't as appropriate as not everyone has DVR and there is more to "backstage" then recordings and tasks which is what the DVR is).

Well for heaven's sake!!!

I never even had one thought to push "X"!!! But sure enough that is what they've now facilitated as the way to get to what you refer to as "backstage". Absolutely non-intuitive, at least to me.

If I were going to pick some other textless-symbol/icon to replace "DVR" for whatever justified reasons, and move it to the very right side of what I might call the "menu button/function bar", and I wanted it to be very likely universally intuitive without further training or explanation, I might have suggested "three-line hamburger menu icon" or perhaps "three-dots icon", both of which are now (from phone and app UI) almost universally understood to represent "more..." or "settings..." or "customization..." or "additional secondary buttons/icons...".

It never even dawned on me that "X" was anything I might possibly wish to tap on to explore what it might be, or that there was even the remotest chance this was the new "DVR". Now to be honest as it certainly is new I really didn't know what it was. But if you quizzed me I probably would have thought it was some additional way to EXIT THE PROGRAM, like with the Windows "X" in the upper-right corner of any window!

Nevertheless, you are 100% absolutely correct. Thank you. And now that I know it this case is closed.

(and SD... above is my feedback for your new UI design change)

The problem with it having been labeled DVR is that there are a lot of people who only do live TV and it was not obvious that there would be anything useful in there (like the Discover screen) for non-DVR users. The new behavior is that by default you now start on Discover or Recorded depending on that status, and live TV is a mode you enter then exit.

But I AM a DVR user. So I'd like to see a button that directs me to non-live features pertaining to DVR, e.g. to examine DVR library of recordings, schedule of upcoming recordings, etc.

So if there is some secondary UI for all of this DVR and non-DVR stuff (e.g. settings, discover, etc.), and if you don't want to have TWO buttons for the two categories of sub-function, how about my thought of a single "MORE..." button like the 3-line "hamburger menu" icon, or 3-dots "more" button that is so common on phone apps because it takes less screen space?

We're just brainstorming about whether your replacement of a single "DVR" button with a new "X" button now better satisfies all desires, or perhaps now is even less satisfying than before?
