Missing recordings after Synology NAS reboot

Post by Peterc »

I need some help. After I rebooted my Synology NAS which run my HDHomerun DVR none of my recordings showed up anymore, even though all my files are in the folders. I tried reboot again and still nothing. I was running the official Shnology package. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still nothing. I then tried to install the unofficial package and aome of my older recodrings now showed up, but its less then half of all my recordings. Uninstalled the unoffical and reisntalled tbe offical and its still only the older recordings that show up. My recordings are stored on a usb drive so I have more space and that has been working fine for years. I still se HDHomeRun and HDHomeRunDVR users and giving both full access the the USB share drive. Is therr anyway to refresh the database for all my recordings ao that i can see them in my recorded tab again in the hdhomerun app?

Thanks in advance for any help.

just a guess...
but I suspect your usb drive wasn't mounted when the DVR started after the reboot and thus the engine couldnt see the Recordpath to write logs or process anything and basically exits or sits there.
restarting the engine once the drive is mounted should have worked.
(you might need to ssh on to the NAS and force any running record engines to quit)

to refresh the database the engine simply reads the filesystem
if you can see files, but the engine doesn't report them then you have a permissions issue somewhere. check file permissions specifically on a file you cannot see from the app and compare to one you can.

Thank you for the reply. The USB drive was mounted, I tried to stop and start the DVR service multiple times and have even uninstalled and reinstalled the DVR software on my NAS.

Through more google searches I did find a suggestion to check https://api.hdhomerun.com/discover to make sure my DVR was listed which it was. From here I found StorageURL as my DVR IP and port and then recorded_files.json. If I put that address into a browser, it lists all the recordings that are showing in the HDHomeRun app and missing all the ones that don't show up. Appears maybe something happened to this file somehow.

2 questions to follow up this now. I don't this this recorded_files.json anywhere via file explorer. Where can I find it and try to edit it to add my missing shows data. And can edit it, how do I find all the information needed for my missing shows?

Example of data for one of the shows that is there
"SeriesID": "C13923677ENR0AB",
"Title": "Young Sheldon",
"Category": "series",
"ImageURL": "https://img.hdhomerun.com/titles/C13923677ENR0AB.jpg",
"StartTime": 1715905800,
"EpisodesURL": "http://dvrip:port/recorded_files.json?SeriesID=C13923677ENR0AB",
"UpdateID": 1956300470

Thanks

I think I found a solution using MCEBuddy. I tested converting one missing video file and copying over the new converted file along with the new folder structure and it appears to show in my app recording tab now. Will try to convert all the missing shows and see how it goes. Bonus, MCEBuddy has removed all the commercials.

This thread can be closed. It seems to have been a glitch or some indexing issue. For all the missing shows, if i go in and just adjust the file name, save, and then revert to original file name and save, they all start showing up again. Not sure why that happened though, but it was about half my shows that were missing suddenly after rebooting the NAS.
