Cannot View Los Angeles Fox ATSC 3.0 channel NO DRM

Post by brewerbart »

Recently, I have not been able to view Fox 11 Los Angeles ATSC 3.0 channel on HDHomerun 4k flex on Firetv Max 4k and phone, and Google TV Hisense U8N55. Yet can view via Hisense U8N internal tuner (ATSC 3.0) Note now channel goes to Dolby Vision on U8N tuner. Have not seen firmware update in long time for my HDHomerun Flex 4k.

Any error message?

Do you receive the other non-DRM channels on that signal: 105.1, 113.1?

I'm having the same problem. I also cannot view 113.1. The only ATSC 3.0 station that works is KTLA on 105.1. I suspect both Fox 11 and KCOP 13 encrypted their channels since they're both owned and operated by Fox Corporate.

Easy enough to check if they are DRMed. The hdhomerun app will give you the 'usage restrictions' message front and center if you try to tune an encrypted channel. Or open http://hdhomerun.local in a browser and look for DRM in the channel list.

If you are seeing 'no video data' I've found a fresh channel scan, to update some changed signal parameter, might fix it.

Hello there. Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a fresh channel scan and no dice. I also checked the link above (hdhomerunl.local) but DRM is not listed next to the two problem channels. Still shows as No Video Data in the native HDHomerRun app. KTLA on 105.1 still works.

Is it possible these stations are now broadcasting over IP? That's what the FOX station in Las Vegas does. It is also using Dolby Vision.

But I don't think the HDHR would pick them up in a channel scan if that was the case, though?

Nah ...

Having the same issue here in So. LA with my HDHR-4K "Unable to play channel No data received" for KTTV (FOX) and KCOP's 3.0 broadcasts right now.

However, in addition to my TV's OTA 3.0 tuner. My (with the moderators permission) ********* M1 is also receiving those channels and does not indicate they are encrypted or being streamed over the internet.

So something else is going on with the hdhomerun not able to receive those channels right now.

Can you please make a 60s format=dbg capture of the channel by downloading this link:
http://hdhomerun.local:5004/auto/v111.1 ... uration=60

If you have more than one HDHomeRun replace "hdhomerun" with the device ID.
If the problem channel isn't 111.1 change this to the problem channel.

One saved please upload to a drive site such as Google Drive and then PM me the share link.

Thanks - problem found and fixed. The stream indicates Dolby Vision rather than HEVC for the video format.

The fix will be in the next beta release.

Two questions:

1. Does that mean that when most of ATSC 3.0 Fox stations turned on Dobly Vision before the Superbowl in February and we couldn’t watch those stations anymore, that it was really this issue preventing us from watching and not DRM? My Washington Fox 105.1 give me the same message, but the channel scan for the channel says HEVC DRM. So, I’m guessing I’ll see 105.1 say DV DRM.

2. Is the fix a firmware beta fix? From thread context, I think so. Would we see firmware announcements on Bluesky?

Looks like Rabbitears says 105.1 is DRM, so I guess the most I hope for is it being labeled DV DRM.

WTTG (105.1 Fox in DC) indeed turned on DRM in January 2025. Nothing to do with Dolby Vision or the LA stations' issue.

KTTV 111.1 and KCOP 113.1 now both trigger the "HDR" badge on my LG OLED watching via a competitive device product. Both of these are still NOT DRM.

KTLA 105.1 is NOT HDR and also NOT DRM.

KCBS 102.1 is NOT HDR but is DRM.

KNBC 104.1 is both HDR and also is DRM.

All channels are available without issue for view/record/playback through my alternative equipment.

NOTE: if the stream indicated such then the "Dolby Vision" badge would be presented by the LG TV, but it is NOT what is presented. It is the "HDR" badge that gets presented.

Of course we all know that this so-called HDR is non-camera-native "faux HDR", locally digitally produced by the local affiliates from the source original ATSC 1.0 SDR signal (which is itself upconverted into 1080p HEVC for broadcast as ATSC 3.0). So what appears today as 1080p HDR ATSC 3.0 is really "doubly-faux" via the local affiliate digital processing and re-encoding process: (a) ATSC 1.0 720p/1080i MPEG-2 -> ATSC 3.0 1080p HEVC, and (b) ATSC 1.0 720p/1080i SDR -> ATSC 3.0 1080p HDR.
