WRC (4.x) may have gone DRM only?

Post by DurzoBlint123 »

Hello all,
I live in Northern VA and get my stations from the DC/MD area. Today I was messing around with my home setup, and I noticed that none of my 4.x channels were working either on my TV or HD Homerun Flex 4k.
So I proceeded to rescan. My HD Homerun removed all 4.x stations from my lineup after the scan. 104.1 is still there, but I can't access it because that one has DRM.
My TV is a brand new Sony OLED NextGenTV compatible. So I did a rescan on there, and the ONLY channel that came in is 4.1. Not the other 4.2, 4.3 ...stations.
But that 4.1 station does work on the TV's built in antenna.
So I have a feeling, that the TV may be registering the 104.1 antenna station as 4.1, and it's viewing it because maybe the TV is DRM capable?
And from what I've read, the HD Homerun can't handle DRM content.
Anyone else seen a similar issue?

When did you try as i have seen others in VA not see it early this morning including an hourly graph at rabbitears showing it down for 6 hours (there could be other reasons for that though, and I did not try others)

The hdhomerun adds 100 to any atsc3 channel that way they can offer both for the way the scan adds channels any other device would report the actual virtual channel number. Some other devices will add both versions if detected but not all do (or make it strange selecting between them).

There is nothing wrong with WRC ATSC 1.0 or 3.0. The rabbitears server was up and down the past few days, accounting for the data gaps seen in its Live Bandscan.

You are not receiving the WRC ATSC 1.0 signal on RF34. You have a reception problem there. That is where you'd find the 4.x and 44.x subchannels. There is no DRM on 1.0 signals.

You are receiving WRC ATSC 3.0 on RF33. It is DRMed and the HDHomerun cannot display it. The HDHomerun will show it as 104.1 Sony TVs with ATSC 3.0 tuners are DRM capable. Your Sony TV will show WRC ATSC 3.0 as 4.1 and if it sees an ATSC 1.0 equivalent, it will hide it. It can be unhidden in the channel settings if it scanned in. The ATSC 3.0 signal does not carry 4.2, etc. Just 4.1.
