HDHomeRun UI (20250314) feedback - craigwillie

Post by craigwillie »

Is there going to be a way to revert to the old interface?

My wife has low vision. She can no longer operate the TV due to the small fonts.

Pretty isn't always better in all cases.

I appeal to you to consider those with low or limited vision who can no longer use the HDHomeRun interface.

If this is going to be the only interface moving forward, please let me know so we can consider alternatives.

Thanks.

The smallest font is the series synopsis.

1) Can she read the Season numbers and the Episode numbers?

2) Can she read the episode titles?

1) Can she read the Season numbers and the Episode numbers?

She can read the Season and Episode numbers in the Episode list but not for the current episode.

2) Can she read the episode titles?
No.

She says it is also important to read the recorded date, which is in one of the smallest fonts

I don't like the the new interface. I can't easily see recordings by date when I 'now' have things sorted and separated by season. If I have multiple deletes to do I have to mouse and click instead of delete-key, enter which is *much* quicker. I REALLY DON'T want see "upcoming episodes" listed between episodes I have already recorded and which (recorded episodes) may be pushed out of view by the upcoming ones.

The new interface is much slower and less convenient and less powerful to use. I want the old one back (as an option)?

I am trying to be positive and not resist change. But I do have an observation perhaps someone can show me a better way.

I have been recording "Wagon Train." It shows up under Tasks. In the old interface, I could easily tell which episodes were going to recorded next. Basically a list

Tonight, I wanted to see what in the TV series Wagon Train was coming next to record. There are eight seasons.

I had to search on the left side all the Seasons before I found Season 1 was were the recording was going to take place with episode 3 coming soon. The other seasons listed Recorded.

This does not strike me as an improvement.

Same deal with Bonanza. Listed are Seasons 14, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Are we really supposed to go through each season on the left side if we want to see what is coming next to record?

We are looking at maybe adding an entry under the Season list for Recent and for Upcoming.

Thinking Recent would include 1 upcoming followed by the most recently recorded (max 20 or 30?) in descending order by time.
Thinking Upcoming would include the 1 most recently recorded followed by the upcoming episodes (any season) in ascending order by time.

I think the proposed Recent option would fix your use case... thoughts?

I think "Recent" and "Upcoming" is a good idea.

IMHO, I think "Recent" with without one upcoming and "Upcoming" without one recent would be fine and perhaps more clear. IE don't blend the two a bit together.

Like you suggested, "Recent" would list a dozen or so episodes recorded; and "Upcoming" as many as the guide data reasonably would allow.

If those two headings showed up above "Seasons" I think that would help considerably.

On another note. The Discover pages for movies look nice. My observation is it hit me is the text is repeated twice.

The Gunfighter *****
text text

The Gunfighter
Coming Soon text text same text as above. Seems instead of the same text being repeated, some other information could be generated there.

The problem we are looking to solve with this - you go into Upcoming and the episode you expected to see isn't there. It isn't there because it recently recorded.

While I like the new interface, as already suggested, I agree that there needs to be a way to quickly (aka no additional button presses) see the lists of shows in the conditional scenarios listed below.

The current view and model works well for a show that is only broadcasting new episodes of the current season. If a user is wanting to watch, setup recordings or find a recorded episode of a show that's in syndication and has multiple seasons broadcasting and is also possibly broadcasting new episodes, and they don't have recordings of every episode from every season, it becomes very difficult to navigate and find specifics for these scenarios:

1) in recorded shows, the list of just the recordings that currently exist for the TV show (=same info as the old interface)

2) in the discover screen, the list of just the upcoming episodes (=same info as the old interface)

3) in tasks, the list of shows about to be broadcast and which ones will be recorded (=the same info the old tv show list had - all episodes in the order they are scheduled to be broadcast, with those that will record showing the red dot) or a list of just those scheduled to record (= those that the old interface marked with the red dot)

Of course all of those should be laid out with the same look and feel of the new interface, and should continue
providing access to the all seasons and episodes view that you guys did.

The reason I suggest this is that in all three scenarios, we get the same view of all seasons and all episodes and to find your recordings or the upcoming schedule of broadcasts, or the episodes that are about to record, you have to manually dig through every season and episode to find the information.

Thanks.

I'm fairly certain the app interface is web-based and is triggered by an API of some sort with no way to reverse it.

The new HDHomeRun interface has its advantages, but for people with poor eyesight, it can be problematic. No option to adjust font size or revert to the old UI is a major downside. It’s worth reporting concerns on the forum, as Silicondust sometimes listens to user feedback.

They should really add a text size adjustment – not everyone watches TV with their nose on the screen. And that navigation, it’s supposed to be modern, but it’s confusing. Maybe if more people complain, they’ll actually fix it? :)

We have a meeting this morning to review font sizes.

In the new UI, how do you modify a Task? I want to change one of my Tasks from "All Episodes" to "Current Season"
I can't find how to get to those settings.
