BUGS: UI 20250325g

Post by Señor Bob »

  • Application starts in Recorded mode instead of Discover.
  • Single episode events (Specials) show up as Series Record (after pressing the > button) and have no option to remove/delete from within the Discover view.
  • Single episodes do not reflect being programmed to start X minutes early or X minutes later. The interface only shows Record On Time for both options.
Instead of forcing this buggy stuff on us, at least leave it as New Features. The old interface worked fine. This new stuff is less useful and buggy.

It will start it Recorded mode if you have recordings - this is by design.

Are you trying to hide a show from showing up in Discover again?

If there are two different episodes, of the same show, starting at the same time, on different channels, only one episode is offered as now showing. Big Bang Theory, 7:00 PM, Baltimore/Comcast.

It will default to the best channel as per favorites, resolution, etc same as if it was to be recorded. If you want to select a specific channel press the Right to open the right menu.

I won't do any of that because I have no way to know that two different episodes are airing at the same time.

If it is airing on two channels the system will pick the better channel (by resolution). Same logic as when the DVR picks which one to record.
If you want it to pick the other channel by default set that channel as a favorite.
Then when you see an airing you want to watch you simply select it.

Both channels are favorites and the same resolution. Not sure how that relates to not being able to choose between 2 shows because they air at the same time. I never see the airing to select.

Also, it's not always the same episode airing on both channels. Big Bang Theory airs in syndication and is in heavy rotation on TBS and Nick at Nite, with a lot of head to head airings.

Higher resolution doesn't always mean the best version either. It might not apply to Big Bang Theory, but many shows and movies are edited for time and content in syndication, so a 720p airing of something on FXX would be better than the syndicated airing on your 1080i local. Then you have the reverse with shows like The Simpsons where FXX mostly airs the 16:9 hatchet jobs and you might prefer a local channel that has pillarboxed 4:3 airings where on screen gags aren't cropped out of frame.

Press right. It will show you all airings. If live you can select the channel you want to watch now. If not live and you have DVR you can set up a rule (Series Record with a channel filter or you can simply select a specific airing to record)

If it is a different episode it is not combined. Each episode is its own item in the episode list.

That assumes everyone is using the app the way you're envisioning. I don't. I only use it to program DVR functions. Therefore, I expect to be able to start in the Discover mode, so I can more readily program the DVR. I also use Tasks, to verify how the DVR is going to operate. I do not use Recorded or Live, because I use other applications to view my recordings. Please put this feature back and stop removing things that are actively being used.

Here is an example of a Special I have programed to record from PBS. This is not a series. It's only going to air one time (for the foreseeable future).

Press the > button and then press the mislabeled button Record Series and I get the following:
Image
Notice there's no option to delete this recording and it thinks this is a series (which it is not). Also it is ignoring the fact I had set the recording to start 2 minutes early and finish 2 minutes later.

I can check what is going on... what is the Device ID of your HDHomeRun?

There's nothing going on with it. This all worked fine until you forced this buggy user interface on us. I programmed this earlier today with the working interface. Either fix this buggy user interface, or put back the one that works.

Put the working interface back, and I'll show you what it is supposed to look like. This all worked perfectly fine earlier today, until this buggy interface was forced upon us.

Failing that, find something that will only air once. Perhaps a movie.

I just did that, using my local channel 12.3 (Movies!) and selected this:
Image

I then did the > button and selected the option to choose the specific channel and time and got this:
Image

Next, I choose to record it at 2 minutes early and 2 minutes later:
Image

Then I went back to check on it, again hitting the > button and got this:
Image

No option to delete this and it clearly has ignored my configuration of 2 minutes early and 2 minutes later.

This interface is clearly buggy, compared to the other stable/working interface. At least put this stuff back to an opt-in configuration option, until you work out the bugs. Forcing buggy software into production and then expecting your users to debug this stuff is not how this should be done.
