channelscan on legacy HDHR3-US

Post by slessard »

How can I do a channel scan that will remove all the previously configured channels and only display / access the newly scanned channels?

I have the HDHR3-US with latest firmware version (20230505.) I've had this HDHR3-US device for many, many years. I am running the latest HDHomeRuns app (Version 20231214 (6)) on my Mac, an M3 Arm CPU running macOS Sequoia 15.3.1. I want to scan the channels but cannot find the GUI that I recall used to be there somewhere. I searched these forums and found a reference to this document: https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/using_t ... y_hardware. That document talks about needing a Windows machine to run a channel scan. I don't have a Windows machine. Further, because I have an M3 Mac, I can't even run Windows in a virtual machine.

If the answer is to use the command line tools I already tried that. I was able to run a channel scan on both tuners, but the HDHomeRun app continues to display channels that I know were not included in the channel scans I performed today. Is there a way to get the command line tool to delete all previous channel data?

Code: Select all

% hdhomerun_config 1037CBD8 get /sys/hwmodel
HDHR3-US
% hdhomerun_config 1037CBD8 get /sys/version
20230505

For legacy devices you need to use the old HDHomeRun Setup tool on Windows.

One you have run that scan on Windows the channels will work on your Mac.

The command line tools will show you the channels you can receive but will not update the channel list.

You can create a Windows 10 or 11 VM on Apple Silicon Macs (I use one myself). It just needs to be the ARM version of Windows.

Lon.TV recently released a video showing how to use UTM to create VMs on Apple Silicon Macs; it includes a section on Windows guests. Here's the link:

You can also use VMware Fusion (free) or Parallels (non-free). I use VMware Fusion 13 myself.
