New HDHR interface won't work

Post by Krinkel »

A new user interface apparently launched today, and things don't look good. When setting up a recording for a particular program, the convenient list of program episodes, times/dates and channels is gone. Replacing it is an interface that contains no information about the time and channel where each instance of the program is airing.

This info is critical for those of us with spotty reception, who need to set up multiple recording sessions for redundancy. (This is particularly useful with PBS, which re-airs programs several times so viewers can have more than one crack at a program.) Moreover, with PBS, one would usually prefer an overnight broadcast, since the primetime broadcasts usually contain more annoying embedded promos.

With the previous UI, it was easy to set up these redundant recording sessions, on the preferred channel. The new interface makes this process VERY CUMBERSOME. The interface is pretty, but this might be another triumph of form over function. I hope HDHR comes up with a way to bypass these decorations and go back to a truly useful UI.

Does anyone know if there is a way to roll back to the previous UI? I'm fine with editing configuration files if that's what it takes.

(The new info-limited UI version is 20250315.)

If there are channels you can't reliably receive you should disable them in Settings, Channels.

You can also mark certain channels as Favorite in the same place so the DVR and Episodes view will prefer these channels.

The DVR feature to record a specific airing on a specific channel is still there under Record This Airing.

I don't think that's a reasonable expectation. We're talking about RF here. I would heartily suggest letting users decide how and when they use the channels they *might* receive.

Just brainstorming out lout here (no promises), but what if where it says "Available on.." and shows the date, it also listed the channel number(s)?

So here's the situation I'm in, excluding stuff with out-of-market channels which I will concede is a niche use: In the Austin market, every single ATSC 3.0 channel is worse in some way than their ATSC 1.0 counterparts. But I don't want to disable them all, because that's why I bought a Flex 4K! In time, some of them will hopefully improve, which is why I keep them enabled and keep tabs on them.

The current UI gives me complete control over which channels I want to watch or record something on, from *every* tab/section in the UI. I don't have any suggestions on how one might shoehorn that into the new UI you've presented, but you all have obviously put a lot more time and thought into it than us forum members.

Thanks for the consideration.

For that situation you can favorite the ATSC 1.0 version of any channel that has an ATSC 3.0 channel that is worse in some way. Then the ATSC 1.0 version of the channel will be picked.

Update - we have been discussing a proposal to enable channel selection for Now Playing via the right menu.

Just discovered it myself. Still digesting it, but I sort of like it. Because it is different, a question.

On the old interface, I could tell it would re-record a movie again, even though it did earlier in the week. Sometimes I will record a movie twice or more to make sure I have a good copy.

On the new interface, I get no red dot indicating it will record again. Just says recorded. Is this going to force me to move my first copy out each time I want to record something twice?

IE. I recorded Robber's Roost. A movie. Under Discover I find it again. I click on it because I want to record it again. I see the info page and that I have recorded it. But there is no record option or listing of future dates.

On the old interface, under Discover and when I clicked on the movie, it would show all future airdates and let me re-record it as many times as I would like.

---Now that I look at it, it seems any Discover movie I click on, it only shows me the recent air date, but not list of all future air dates. Am I missing something?

With the new interface you can record a movie as many times as you like - press right on the keyboard to access the right menu, Edit Task, then edit the airing to record.

There is a known issue where the visual right arrow indication is not being displayed for movies - that will be fixed on Monday.

Could the right menu include a way to choose a show airing at the same time via a non-default channel?

This discussion is for Now Playing (live TV) so the airing is always right now.

For recording you can already specify any airing on any channel, or even multiple airings/channels to record.

Okay, I was thinking in terms of the Discover tab. Is that the same UI?

"With the new interface you can record a movie as many times as you like - press right on the keyboard to access the right menu, Edit Task, then edit the airing to record."

I see "Edit Rule" under Watch from Start - Delete - Delete Re-record

Edit Rule gives

Record This Airing

Record More

Cancel

But I'll wait till Monday to see how things flush out.

Select Record This Airing. From there you can select the airings you want to record.

We plan to tweak the flow in the coming weeks.
