Under Settings, changing Start Page where I can select Discover, Live TV or Recorded to Start in Live TV where it can only be toggled on or off is not an improvement. I want the app to start in Discover because that's what I use it for 90% of the time to find things to record. It appears there's no way to do this now. Removing the ability to start in Discover is a bug.

There also now appears to be no way to cancel recording a series. Press the right arrow, for a series that's all ready scheduled and under Series Record there's no option to Delete.

These "improvements" are making the process of using the application to program the DVR less useful.

Now it seems to be ignoring how I've configured a series to record:

This is what is should look like:

Additional bugs include:
  • There's no ability to modify a series, that's in Tasks, but currently has no episodes to record.
  • The configuration to record from one channel in particular is ignored and shows as Record All Channels.
  • Ignored configuration to start in Discover.

It is not pulling in the existing rule to edit (padding, channels, delete-option). This will be fixed on Monday.

Thank you for the changes! Being able to select the channel from the right arrow menu in the Discover tab is a big improvement.

The only obvious thing I'm currently missing from my workflow is that the top item under the banner is missing the right arrow when highlighted (although it still works), whereas all the lower items have the right arrow. Should it be visible, or is this a design decision?

Thanks.

This is by design.

When we have a big right arrow and a small down arrow it isn't clear to first time users that down is the main option.

If there is only one episode (or a movie) there is no down option. In this situation the right arrow is displayed.

Understood, thanks.

I have to admit I have no idea what this new interface is supposed to do? It's nice looking and all, but usually I just want to watch (and typically delete) programs we've recorded. If we are far behind on a program, there is a great deal of clicks/scrolling involved to get to the earliest one. What happens if there was a power failure and a recording was missed, do you have to see the lock icon to know it's not there? When you do a one-off recording of a show from a prior season do you have to go searching for it by checking each season/episode to find it?

Maybe if there was (or is and I'm missing it) an option to just show me the things that exist on my DVR that might solve a lot for me. Perhaps if you go through Recordings this could be the case whereas going through Discover shows you all this information? To me, "Recordings" implies "show me the things I have recorded that I can watch", no need for the entire history of the series and so much scrolling around and clicking just to get there.

I will say, for something that's been recorded in its entirety and is still available on your DVR, it's a lot easier to find a specific episode you're looking for. I'm not sure how much value that use case has over picking up your phone and just searching for the season/episode number since this is just a browse as opposed to a search.

I also agree with the comments that "HDHomeRun is not a streaming service", I don't understand why you'd want to make it look like one and show people things they can't click on and watch. That's pretty frustrating in fact?

It does look very nice, hats off the UI guys. I prefer more information density over pictures myself since I prefer to spend the minimum amount of time finding what I want to watch, but it's definitely pretty!!

What djp952 said. ^

Last week, I recorded an episode of 'Mom' to watch later that day, but when I wanted to watch it later, I had to use Titan TV to find the season/episode #s of the one I recorded in order to find it in my Recordings tab amongst all the other episodes I already have recorded just to watch it. HDHR is not/should not become a streaming service app.

I think one of the reasons for the problem is that they seem intended to have discover and recorded essentially have the "same" interface where the audience at that time is essentially different and as a result neither works "well" though I think it works a bit better for "discover" rather than recorded as discover is to discover things for the present and coming in the future while recorded should be focused on things in the past thus the presentation order is all wrong for recorded (and yes there may be reasons to sort differently depending on the situation). There may be a bit of overlap for "tasks" as in some cases you may wish to see upcoming and perform some conflict resolution at the same time I know my tasks list starting many years ago has become a bit of a monster to handle through a list of tasks and many probably should be moved much further down in the list to have what is more relevant on top (several series have since been cancelled and have not been picked up for reruns but wouldn't mind keeping them there for when/if they are in case I missed something). I also am not aware of streaming services that do "anything" with upcoming other than to say new episodes "Every Wednesday" then change to "All episodes now available" or something like that but I rarely see any of them actually list an upcoming episodes let alone at the top of the list for one to select (only recently have I even got an upcoming in netflix that might be a bit useful).

I really, really hope SD hasn't made some internally decided upon, but not yet disclosed, decision to eventually include streaming services in the HDHR app. I DO NOT WANT a "one size fits all" HDHR app. I want an HDHR app that facilitates my use of my HDHR tuners, period.

Not sure where my post went and I don't want to type it all over again. So I'll get to the meat of my question.

When recording movies under the new interface, why is the option Record Series shown in addition to the listed time slots of the movie?

It seems when I used it initially, it showed the movie as a TV show (which kept me from seeing the time slot under tasks)

Second question is the Online guide updated so we can read and understand all the changes?

Record Series means record all episodes once. For a movie there is only one so it will record it (any airing).

If you specific a specific airing it will record that specific airing (high priority).

Generally it doesn't matter either way for a movie unless you have more things to record than you have tuners.
