I’m new here so please bear with me. I am considering the HDHR flex 4 DVR unit. I will be using it with an Nvidia Shield Pro streamer and eventually with PLEX. I have a 500GB USB 3.0 SSD. From what I’ve read I can plug it into the USB port on the back of the Flex unit for local DVR recordings. Is this correct? Also should I format the SSD before plugging it in and if so what format. I’m assuming probably Xfat.
Thanks.
Connected SSD for DVR
Re: Connected SSD for DVR
That will work.
If the drive is blank the HDHomeRun will format it. If not black go to http://hdhomerun.local/ and click the format button.
The HDHomeRun uses XFS as the filesystem.

Re: Connected SSD for DVR
Thanks for the quick response. I will be using it on a Nvidia Shield Pro streamer and Plex. Will I have to install the software first and scan for channels on a PC prior to installing it on the Shield?

Re: Connected SSD for DVR
The usb port on the flex is only for recording with SD's own dvr and playback is typically only through the official hdhr apps, not third party apps like plex.
Re: Connected SSD for DVR
So the USB port won’t take a standard SSD? Well that sucks. I’m sure the SD HD is pricey.
Re: Connected SSD for DVR
I don’t understand. I looked at the SiliconDust HDHomeRun Servio and it looks like it only has a Ethernet connection not a USB to plug into the SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex 4K ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV. So what can be plugged into the USB port on this OTA tuner?

Alls good. I found the info regarding the HDHR Flex DVR USB use and requirements.
