Re: Roku HDHomeRun app v 94.0 build 20240809
I’m having a similar problem with app version 94.0 20240809 on a Roku express 4k+.
Multiple failure modes and sometimes it just works.
- app loads and I get a black screen; Roku restarts
- app loads, shows message dialog that this device doesn’t support ac3, exit and video shows but no sound. Device resets
- app loads, but then Samsung tv shows “unsupported video”; have to manually reset the Roku
Working- app started and loads, shows the ac3 message, exit and it works fine with video and audio.
The failures happen frequently when device is started, but after a few retries(Roku restarts), I can get it working.

Re: Roku HDHomeRun app v 94.0 build 20240809
You won't get sound with a Roku Express connected to a Samsung TV so the message is correct.
Still it should reliably do the same thing each time and show that message.

No sound? But this was working and still does work sometimes:
Why remove this functionality?

I just got video and sound - started the app, got the message, exit and the channel loaded and worked.
Note that this is a Roku express 4k-plus (if that helps).

Re: Roku HDHomeRun app v 94.0 build 20240809
Roku Express does not implement AC3 audio decoding (it never has, nothing to do with our app). For AC3 content the Roku Express attempts to pass it to the television (or AVR) to decode. This works on pretty much all modern televisions EXCEPT for Samsung. For some reason Samsung TVs support playing AC3 except when AC3 is via an HDMI input.
Roku Ultra (not LT) supports AC3 audio decoding and will always work.
Short version:
Roku Express works as long as you use a TV that isn't Samsung.
Samsung TVs work as long as you use a Roku Ultra.
This is not related to our app.
There is an app bug where you get this AC3 error message even if the television can decode AC3 via HDMI - we are looking into that now.

Re: Roku HDHomeRun app v 94.0 build 20240809
Sorry, I’m probably not being clear. Before the upgrade to 20240809 this combination had working audio-
- Samsung Tv
- Roku express 4k-plus
- HDHomeRun app
Since the upgrade SOMETIMES this combo works - other times it causes the Roku to reset.
I haven’t changed the tv, Roku - just received the update.
This is a regression from the previous version -
Regardless if it was intended to work or not - but it did work. It still does work sometime - I’m watching it now.

Ok, I will try to reproduce here...
What exact model of Samsung TV do you have?
Is the Roku Express 4K Plus connected directly to the TV?
Are you using the speakers built into the TV?

The incorrect no-audio popup issue has been fixed - new release will be out soon.
Re: Roku HDHomeRun app v 94.0 build 20240809
App won't exit with the back button. I have to use the "home" button to exit which causes a crash.

Re: Roku HDHomeRun app v 94.0 build 20240809
V95 seemed to fix it for a few days, but its back again. Using HDMI-CEC connection with Roku going to the TV and the TV to the Marantz receiver for audio.
Also, I noticed that if I am watching the last channel (for some amount of time, longer than a few hours) on my channel list and I hit the down arrow it will exit immediately to the Roku home screen. If I go back into the HDHomerun app it will show a Brightstack error and when I press OK goes back to the previous channel. Then it will work OK for while but eventually will fail again with the same method. Seems like a memory leak. If I press the up arrow on the last channel it will work OK. Also, if I press the down arrow on any other channel besides the last one on the list it is OK.
