Can hard drive go to sleep? Win10 computer will continue running
I have a HD Homerun Prime. I know the computer can't go to sleep because the DVR will not wake it back up, but can a hard drive power down when not in use and power back up when it is needed? It is a portable hard drive connected to USB 3.

Generally no. If the hard drive takes longer than about 10s to start up recordings will fail. It also means a bad user experience waiting to be able to start playing back a recording.
