Just a heads up, Verizon FiOS will have the Super Bowl 4K HDR telecast on channel 1495. Verizon FiOS customers might need to do a rescan on their HDHomeRun Primes to see it as it was only recently added to the lineup.

For the SiliconDust staff, if the Gracenote data didn't already auto match it, you need to map it to "FIOS4K5"/stationId 120903

Unless I'm mistaken, the CBS has said that the 4K broadcast is going to be upscaled from the 1080P broadcast; it will not natively be filmed in 4K

I recorded the past few Super Bowl games from the Fios "4K" channels on my Prime and so far none of them have been DRM.

Last year's SB was on Fox, which is non-DRM. So everybody could watch the game in 1080p (where available) using Flex-4K server tuner/DVR. And if watched through a client device that did not possess local AC-4 audio support they would be using your cloud transcode. Hence your peak load last year.

This year SB is on CBS, which I believe is DRM all over the country. And since we don't have ANY support for DRM I suspect you will see near-ZERO cloud-assist going on during the game. Everybody will be watching through ATSC 1.0 or cable or the alternative "one device per TV" ATSC 3.0 competitors who do provide DRM live-view (and "beta" DVR record/playback for DRM) as well as built-in local AC4 audio support inside their "hardware solution to DRM and AC4".

Didn't know that. But then FOX here in LA is not DRM but I saw that FOX just recently now available in Chicago is DRM. Go figure. I thought it would be network-based, but apparently it's local affiliate determined.

Nope. WSPA in Update South Carolina (our CBS affiliate) is not DRM-protected. Since I'll be viewing the Super Bowl via my 1st generation Apple TV 4K, there'll be at least one user of SiliconDust's cloud transcode service.

In addition to Detroit (O&O), at last check CBS is also DRM free in Sacramento (O&O), Seattle (Cox), Tampa (Tegna), Orlando (Graham), Portland OR (Nexstar), Indianapolis (Nexstar), Salt Lake City (Sinclair), Raleigh (Nexstar), Greenville SC (Nexstar), West Palm Beach (Sinclair), Cincinnati (Sinclair), Vegas (Nexstar), Fresno (Nexstar), Grand Rapids (Sinclair), Albany NY (Sinclair), Birmingham (Nexstar), Austin (Sinclair), Buffalo (Nexstar), Dayton (Cox), Mobile (Nexstar), Albuquerque (Nexstar), El Paso (Sinclair), Green Bay (Nexstar), Syracuse (Sinclair), Springfield MO (Nexstar), Charleston-Huntington (Nexstar), Rochester (Nexstar), South Bend (Sinclair), and Champaign (Nexstar).

RabbitEars lists a few other CBS stations as DRM free in Richmond, Roanoke, Tallahassee, Charleston SC and Bryan, but he doesn't have updated information for them from a local viewer, and odds are they have since added DRM as they are owned by 2 of the biggest offenders (Gray and Scripps)
