SiliconDust

Post by JSH56 »

Is SiliconDust still a company? The website has 2017 dates. Just curious as I am trying to figure out which HDHomeRun to buy.
Is there a more up to date website?

We have a significant website update in review right now... give it a few days.

Our 3 main models are the HDHomeRun FLEX DUO, HDHomeRun FLEX QUATRO, and the HDHomeRun FLEX 4K...
DUO = 2 tuner ATSC 1.0
QUATRO = 4 tuner ATSC 1.0
4K = 4 tuner where 2 tuners support ATSC 3.0 and all 4 tuners support ATSC 1.0

Looking forward to it.

Nickk,
I personally got the impression that the HDHomeRun was all but discontinued - at least in Europe - since they've seemed to have gone missing from all Amazon sites and from SiliconDusts own European retail website.

Will the product also be returning to Europe?

Same question as above, what about Europe market?

It looks like our announcement e-mail (that also triggers a social media post or two) never went out, but we are now shipping to the EU as of this last week:

https://shop.silicondust.com/shop/product-category/dvb/

Free international shipping from USA. Payment/pricing in US dollars. Buyer is responsible for import duty/taxes/GST/VAT.

Does that mean the Silicondust homepage will be getting new links to the consumer products that are available now? It looks from that page like you only sell commercial products now.

And from a more selfish standpoint, is the servio a product still or not?

If one is used to the old site, I see that might give such impression as the consumer is just hdhomerun and then one has commercial, support, and buy. There us no choice to take one to another region to see what is there until in shop (buy).so I'm not sure what shows up in other regions pages but in the US un just simply scrolls down (note prime (cablecard) is now removed and shows out of stock except for in US Refurbished in shop. Note the previous page for prime still had a lot if prime6 references and photos and that had been called off years ago.

Since they came out with the flex, the servio has pretty much been discontinued, as one simply attaches a drive to the flex.

OK good but I'm looking for replacement for my HDHR4-2DT which can handle DVB-C and not a $3k behemoth.
Will you be bringing consumer products on the shop as well?

Unless there's some regional varations on what appears on the page, you should see 4 different consumer models on the list in addition to the TECH:

HDFX-4DT-R <- Flex Quatro Refurbished
HDFX-4DT <- Flex Quatro New
HDHR5-4DT-R <- Connect Quatro Refurbished
HDHR5-2DT-R <- Connect Duo Refurbished

The HDHR5-2DT-R is the replacement model for the HDHR4-2DT

After the 20200907 firmware update, all [HDHR5 and newer] DVB models now support DVB-C in addition to DVB-T and DVB-T2

Looks like the consumer models aren't showing up on that list for some countries. We are looking into it.

While we are on the subject, is the Servio discontinued or is it temporarily out of stock?

I realize that I could get a flex and plug in a usb drive but why on earth would I want to do that when the servio has it all built in. I have a 1TB one now and would love to get a 2TB. Is that going to be possible?

Bad decision. Might want to change the website to reflect that.

We like the SCRIBE in particular as a concept, but it uses a special drive that is specced for a heavier workload than a typical laptop drive, and the drives have to be ordered in huge quantities at relatively high prices since they're a niche product. We're exploring a number of alternatives to see if we can find something that makes a little more sense.
