If you really want to know, you can probably turn on flow instrumentation on better routers to see the traffic metrics. If your router does not have that capability, you could probably use a brute force approach and disconnect your Internet service at the router and see if the audio continues to play (not sure if the app will deal well with losing it's connection to the Internet).

I do agree that having playback information available in a user accessible diagnostic screen would be occasionally useful (like the "stats for nerds" in YouTube).

Actually, today's SD outage proved to be a perfect chance to test it using the ATSC 3.0 recordings. Only the device that support local AC-4 handling can playback the recordings in HDHR app. Those that can't will not be able to play any of these recordings in HDHR app.

Rocktek G2 supports AC4 via smart-passthrough mechanism.

Can you please test the Sony again, this time restarting the app after enabling "send diagnostic information".

Thanks for confirming that.

I did another test this morning:
7:05AM Sony X900H
7:15AM T-Vision Hub v2 (from T-Mobile).

Hopefully this time the diagnostic info is sent successfully.

Not seeing the startup diagnostic information from the T-Vision Hub v2

Thanks again.

Just launched the T-Vision Hub v2 device again at 2:08PM EDT. Not sure if this time the information is sent.

Thanks. That means I have 3 different devices that can handle AC-4 and could save SD some cloud transcoding costs :)

I just tried a player Rocktek G2 and it seems to support AC-4 via ExoPlayer. My device is against 103B4218 and 10529531 but I played from a DVR test and would be interested in know how AC-4 is played back on this device. Logcat shows

ms12 is the Dolby transcode library. You pass AC4 audio to the audio output device as if it were AC4 passthrough and this library converts it to AC3 for AC3 passthrough (or PCM for PCM output).

So will this go to your transcoding server or will it always go through passthrough, independently from the app's speaker configuration?

ms12 is transcoding built into the device - no server involved.

The HDHomeRun app uses the AC4 system codec if present. Next the HDHomeRun app uses AC4 passthrough if present (ie the ms12 transcode on the local device). Finally if there are no other options the HDHomeRun app uses our cloud transcode service.

Does the Roku Ultra 4802R handle AC-4 audio from ATSC 3.0? I think it's a slightly newer version than the 4800x.

4802R is the 2022 Ultra model, which should support AC-4.

So, if I have an app that uses HDHome Run Flex 4K (like Channels DVR, for instance)......do they get the benefit of the cloud AC4?
